Stating the obvious, we were one of the three teams relegated from the EPL of course our wage bill would have been one of the loftiest in the Championship, even if you factor in the reduction of relegation clauses and outgoings.

Yet within the space of a year and despite continued Premier League income, we've managed to get down to a wage bill that won't even be in the top half.

Agree next season will be bleak indeed, the reduction for this coming season will see the gulf from last be catastrophic. We do need to reduce the wage bill thats basic economics from last season but how drastic and at what cost to the clubs status

You just make thing up don't you.

They also have a lower wage bill than most other Championship clubs (19th or 20th in the division on estimates), have the third lowest average attendance in the division and have far lower revenues too. This is a small club that continually runs at a loss, a League One club by every measure other than current performance.

Accounting for all that, and given that they finished 27 points behind Sheffield United (currently ninth in the Championship) and 13 points behind Bolton (currently 21st) in League One last season, this is a monumental achievement from Harris and his players.

What’s more, Millwall’s success has come through a playing style very different to those around them. Harris is acutely aware that Millwall have a direct, physical approach that the supporters enjoy because it works. After all, he’s seen more games here as a player and manager than many of them. Millwall rank 21st in the league for possession and 23rd for passes completed. Rather than try and alter the club’s direct style in a higher division, Harris has finetuned it and made it so effective that teams struggle to counteract the strategy despite it being no secret.
City have been a Division One Club ( Div 3 in old money) for the majority of our history. Attendances have risen and dipped dramatically. One I always quote is 70/71 when we 'lost' half of our home support in a season, three years later we were down from a 21,000 average to under 5,000. Looking back over the past 15 years and we boxed way above our weight IMO. Shame we couldn't sustain it or even build a legacy on the back of it but our history shows that it is nothing out of the ordinary.

That's not right.

We've been Championship / Division 2 (old money) for almost half of our history.

Division 1 (3rd om) about a quarter, and the rest between old Divisions 1 and 4 and 10 seasons we didn't play cos of the wars.

It's simpler I think to talk about tiers, on average we have been something like a lower half of the second tier club. Much of that was because of ambition, there wasn't that extra incentive until the Sky money really started rocketing. Because of the not so good history of the 90s and mixed 80s people from the outside tend to think we have done worse than we actually have.

Agreed.

The most typical 'Typical City' season was 1922/3.

Played 42, won 14, drew 14, lost 14, scored 43, conceded 45, points 42, finished 12th of 22 + early FA Cup exit.
