What has it come to that we can't even get Max ****ing Clark to stay? <doh><laugh>

I can't believe we're even having a debate about this.
We don't want him to stay. We've offered him a **** off deal to make him **** off. So we can get the compo.
He's poor. Really poor. Drove nige mad.
Not seen a full back for us hit it into touch as much since the 90's.

Either Fleming is back up or nige has another young back lined up.

I think that is harsh Chazz. He was our best left back last season. Period.

Gotta agree.. I saw Clark many times last season and rarely thought he deserved to be playing. If it wasnt for Tymon leaving the way he did or Kingsley getting injured he wouldnt have played at all.

If we can get some money for him and it'll go in the pot, go for it.

It wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I was just taking Twatkins comments at face value about wanting to keep him and offering him a great deal.

I don't think he was bad enough and we have numbers enough to just not bother retaining him as he should be cheap (if the rumoured £8k is true that's a piss take) but if he's really not wanted it's still the logical thing to do, even if the compo is £50k it's still £50k more than nothing.

I don't get letting Clark go.

We are letting a decent full back go who is settled in the squad and needs replacing. Even if it's a freebie it's a gamble and signing on fees, agents fees etc...

I think you would be surprised.

Seen three League One youngsters (under 23) on 4k a week with less than 20 appearances between them this season. One is at a very small club too. Also their contracts with New Balance are ridiculous. 10k a year sponsorship deal for a league one bench warmer!

There may be exceptions, but the average wage for a first team player in the Championship was £6.2k a week in 2016/17, so a kid in his season in the first team, who's considered to be back-up, isn't normally going to be on anywhere near £8k a year.

He was our only left back, wasn't he? Not much competition.

Yet he's still better than Kingsley and the two Chelsea loanees in that position. Clark I think in recent years has also been played more as a midfielder.

I hate this kicking down of our own players, local lads who have come through the academy. Particularly when you look at some of the absolute **** that we've actually paid money for.

Clark has played more than double the amount of times Kingsley has this year, so it's unfair to write him off.

I get what you're saying about kicking our own players but you have to find the right balance. It isn't worth it to stick with a player for the sole reason of him being local.

Kingsley in the games I've seen him play was absolute gash.

I don't want us playing players who aren't good enough, just because they're local.

Obviously it's great when we get a local lad who is good enough, but I don't believe that's the case on this occasion and though Kingsley started badly, he played the last five games and was getting better each game and by the end he certainly looked the more capable of the two.

It isn't even the final year, it's the final weeks every time. I'd love some justification as to why we do that, but you just know it isn't going to happen. Especially given that we obviously wanted to keep Bowen so we offered a deal straight away.
The problem is that a year ago he had never played for us so similarly would you offer a new and better contract to all junior squad players?

I agree with this to some degree. If Forest or another club offer him more or the same he'd take it...who wouldn't.

Absolutely agree that if Forest or another club are offering it, he would take it. So would I. But that amount is just bonkers (to me) for a lad his age / experience etc. Same goes for the hundreds of thousands per WEEK some of the household names get.

Can't be right.

To be fair I could always see Larsson going, hes been our best midfielder, very replacable maybe not with the clowns in charge. Making the release of Meyler even more baffling. So we need a new backline, two new midfield enforcers, maybe another and a couple of wingers, and a decent goalscorer. Oh and pace, somewhere.

Not to worry, Will Keane will fire us to the promised land, any odds on us going down?
Get ready for "Will Keane's on fire"

Well then they should have just let Clark go. I think he would be wanted here as cover for Kingsley, otherwise it’s more pissing about getting players in.

Bad isn’t it, when signing players has actually become a hassle and a worry.

I think that needs to sink in. With a lot of posters.
6.5k a week.
Unfortunately players like Dawson etc would be on fifteen or so a week.

Kingsley wasn't good under Slutsky but you could say that of all the defence back then, except the goalkeeper.

Admittedly all of them signed new deals within the last 12 months.

Give it 18 months and I think that average wage will double. I don't agree with him wanting that, but do you want to bet against him getting it? I reckon he will find someone willing.

Football has a lot of inflationary pressures, and some of the transfers are ridiculous and if you look at things historically (Past performance is not a measure to use to judge future performance blah blah) it has taken 12-18 months for those pressures to pass down the leagues.
