Nige said he went to Doncaster vs Bristol Rovers on Tuesday night. Wonder who he was there to watch?

Doncaster:
  • 13 Marosi
  • 17 Blair
  • 31 Downing (Paul)
  • 6 Butler
  • 3 Andrew
  • 26 Coppinger (sub: Beestin)
  • 11Crawford
  • 10Rowe
  • 7 Wilks Booked at 49mins (sub May)
  • 9 Marquis
  • 22 Sadlier (sub Smith)

Bristol Rovers

  • 13 Bonham
  • 15 J Clarke Booked at 90mins
  • 4 Lockyer
  • 5 Craig
  • 3 Holmes-Dennis Booked at 70mins (sub: Partington)
  • 6 Upson Booked at 74mins (sub: Sinclair)
  • 25 Ogogo
  • 8 O Clarke
  • 17 Jakubiak (sub:Moore)
  • 19 Clarke-Harris
  • 20 Reilly

If it's a goalkeeper we're looking at, it's obviously not going to be Bonham (although he was the reason we got promoted under Steve Bruce, he was in goal for Watford that fateful day). Marosi has had a great season for Doncaster, looks a solid keeper.

The centre half we have been linked to at Doncaster previously, Niall Mason, was sacked by Doncaster for sexual assault convictions and is currently in prison. So if it was a defender, Lockyer (who plays for Wales) is the best bet as the other defenders on show were average (Butler is decent, but he's 35. Ehab probably loves him).

Midfield you've got Whiteman for Donny, who is a decent young CM, but the best bet is it's experience to replace Henriksen, and he didn't play, so my money would be on Ali Crawford, who would be a direct replacement for Evandro.

Wide players were mostly loan players, but Kieran Sadlier (who scored) is the brightest spark of the lot, having come through the West Ham academy.

Up front, the obvious choice is Marquis, but given that Doncaster rejected an offer from Portsmouth for £2m (which, let's face it, isn't the sort of money we'll be chucking around), can't see us going for him. Johnson Clarke-Harris for Rovers has 8 goals in 10 games and is a hell of a finisher. Not the quickest, but he seems to score plenty.

Obviously this is a chance to look at players, it is by no means a definite conformation. But League 1 players will almost certainly be the order of the day next season.

He had a days holiday and wanted to enjoy footie again away from the Allams

John Welsh has just left Grimsby.
Ex-Liverpool footballer broke woman's leg by kicking her on night out as he asked 'Do you know who I am?' after downing 11 pints of shandy
  • John Joseph Welsh, 35, had drunk 11 pints of shandy on a night out with his brothers in Liverpool city centre on March 24 last year
  • Welsh, from Liverpool, was given a suspended sentence at Liverpool Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm
  • The father-of-three bumped into the couple who were waiting for a taxi at a bus stop, shortly before 4am
Probably why.....

Turns out it was Clarke-Harris at Bristol Rovers Nige was watching. 9 goals in 9 games since his move from Coventry. 15 for the season.

Could we benefit from the sale of Dan James? I suspect we have must some kind of sell on clause in place if Dan James gets transferred out of Swansea for decent money.
More money in Ehab's trouser pocket.

And how is he gonna purchase a decent striker when the Allams are gonna pocket all proceeds from any sales ?

It depends how much Bristol Rovers want for him. Presumably not that much if we're scouting him, if we knew we wouldn't be able to afford him we wouldn't waste our time going to watch him.

We will still spend money next season, it just won't be a lot. We aren't in financial difficulty, it's just the owners tightening the purse strings, so there'll probably be a little bit of cash available. Anything from Bowen and Grosicki going (wages wise) would give us at least something to work with, even if it's only a couple of million. How it is used will be key to whether we do well or falter.

Would like to be wrong on this, but our chances of landing him are very slim to none as the article states we are one of a host of championship clubs interested in him.

We're not going to sign him.

I lke FC. Always wanted him to come back. BUT, as Nige said, you need playes who can play 40odd games a season. Even at £8k a week thats not value for us given the new realities. Harsh realities.
Take your point but there can't be too many strikers around who'll stay fit for 40-odd games a season, and to be fair to FC he's turned out 33 times this season, 36 last (courtesy of wiki so might not be totally accurate).

Ultimately FC will do what's right for him. I suspect a 2 year contract on much lower terms may get him to sign for City over a better 1 year deal elsewhere. That said I'm not holding my breath, knowing our numpties of owners they'll be a hundred or so other clauses to put him off!

It maybe he's attracted to a club that can provide a locker in working order!
