Wonder if they will rethink Envoi Allen now, shaping up to be the weakest Champion Hurdle of all time.

Would have been a steering job as I suspected.

Aologies, you may have taken the question up the wrong way. I was asking if you knew any more on the horse, as in did he have any chance of making a recovery or is it more or less a done deal he will miss out.

The last I read was he was making a good recovery, better than hoped. Sounded positive.

not entered (currently)

will we see another Binocular-esque miracle?

I have Conflated 25/1 e/w so I hope COF wins tomorrow.

Did you notice he got pushed out to 33/1 after his run?
Back into 25/1 again now but I don't know how they took a negative view on Conflated!

Goes there with a huge chance in my opinion.

Although my long term plot / spot has been Column of Fire and I was also pleased with his run.

Entries out on Tuesday for all the handicaps so the real hard work begins :)

No, I didn't notice. I've seen the race again a couple of times and it seems to me that he ran right to be a Grade 1, jumped well except for a hurdle and finished the race very well. Elliot's not going to leave a horse alone there so I hope that if he's not his first choice, maybe he’s COF, he's the second, although sometimes I think it's possible that even Elliot might think otherwise.

Right now he has 138 in Ireland and I expect at most 141-142 in UK.

Now we have to wait until Tuesday 18th.

Now that the championship races are NRNB, antepost betting on those races is more antepost lite with the jeopardy removed for a non runner. I've had a good look up and down the likely Champion Hurdle contenders and am struggling to pick a standout. As Irish racing is no longer on ATR I hardly see any of it but would probably take Sharjah @ 8/1. I'll probably have a few multiples across the week and if I include one from the Champ Hurdle in that it will be the Mullins/Ricci combo. Silver Streak is one of my favourite horses in training. He's an honest trier and may sneak a place again on decent ground. I don't see his price shortening though so will have an ew nibble on the day when the ground conditions are known. The Hail Mary punt I've picked out though is Elgin from the Alan King yard at a whopping 100/1 EW NRNB. The 8 year old missed the whole of last season through injury. Prior to that he ran well in the 2018 renewal but was ultimately well beaten in 5th. He does have some decent form though and deserves his rating of low 160s based on what he's done. In an average looking renewal he shouldn't be 100/1. He's entered in the the Betfair hurdle at Newbury but I reckon he's more likely to line up in the Kingwell at Wincanton. I can't believe King will run him unless he's back fully fit and had a prep run in which case I'll get my dosh back in any case.

Thanks Chainbar as I threw Elgin in a e/w treble at the weekend with Dell Arca and Tarmaroc Du Mathan so have a lovely piece of paper for day one (although Elgin was only 50/1 and therefore 10/1 place). He is entered in the Kingwell and if he runs well there I will be a tad nervous at 3.30 on the 10th

I noticed that he'd been cut to 50s at the weekend. Not sure why as he's still not seen a racecourse this season. He's currently 7s for the Kingwell on Saturday and I would imagine will need to run well to get the nod for the CH. It would be lovely just to have live voucher at 100/1 (or 50s) on day 1 of the festival. I still reckon the Champion Hurdle is wide open with plenty of question marks around the top 5 in the betting even lining up. 3 Mares (2 won't run IMO), a novice and a 5 year old leaves plenty of scope for an outsider to land a blow.

One I quite like for the Albert Bartlett (but can't find a price anywhere) is Welsh Saint. I very much liked how he stayed on when done for pace over 2m 4f at Cheltenham the other day in what looked like a pretty decent listed contest. Whilst Welsh Saint couldn't live with the turn of foot of the first two (Protektorat and Imperial Alcazar), he did stay on well up the hill and looked like a step up in trip would suit. His sire Saint Des Saints has produced some really good stayers including Djakadam, Quito De La Roque, Quel Esprit, Saint Calvados, Aux P'tits Soins and Welsh Saint's full brother, Irish National winner Burrows Saint. I'm not sure what connections plans are but potentially a step up in trip between now and March might point him towards the Albert Bartlett. If I could get something like 66 or 100/1 I would risk a fiver each way on him.

Welsh Saint entered in both the Rendelsham and Pertemps Qualifier at Haydock this coming Saturday over 3 miles. Both open company which surprises me - perhaps they are just speculative entries and he won't run in either ......................... interesting nevertheless.

That is why I liked it when you put it up. Like each doubles and trebles especially and big odds. Was tempted with pairing it with Bristol De Mai but didn't get the bet down when Bristol was at 50's

Is this horse’s moniker a case of the 11th richest man in Wales naming horses after himself?!? One does wonder.

Agree he is interesting but I think there is another in that ‘Pertemps Qualifier’ who is perhaps even more so. And that is Kilbricken Storm. Read an interview with old boy Tizzard after the ‘Cleeve’ in which he said the owner is intent on running him in the ‘Stayers Hurdle’ (and does have an entry) which Col all but stated was madness. He said, then, that he personally will be trying to persuade the owner to go down the handicap route at the Festival as off 143 he does look nicely treated. Now if he creeps into 5th or 6th in this ‘Qualifier’ at the weekend and gets a ratings reduction, in the process, Kilbricken Storm could be very well treated re the Final should the owner end up going that way. Although I am still fascinated by The Storyteller re this event.

Elgin must be catchin the proverbial pigeons on the gallops. Now 33/1 from 100/1 just over a week ago and still nowhere near a racecourse. Those nice people in Stoke have offered me my stake back plus 50%. **** em <laugh>.

Got to hope they can get a race into him this weekend or next week though. I can't be having him line up without a prep.

Maybe it's a good bet Saint D'Oroux 33/1 NRNB before he runs tomorrow at Gowran if the meeting go ahead.
