The linesman on the East stand side was great today. Shame about the rest of his team.
Great ? Are you having a laugh ? He spent all the first half fiddling with something attached to his arm.
He was also stood a good yard onto the pitch not on the line as he should be.
He wasn't as inept as the referee but he wasn't that far behind.

That offside flag early on when Niasse took it on and Gomez pushed his shot round the post. WTF was that all about !!!!!!

His communications with the referee had failed. You could clearly see it wasn't working. That's what he was messing around with.

He was screaming at the referee to check the corner being spotted correctly first half. He got his offsides correct and was decisive in his throws.

Markovic was offside and interfered with play drawing a defender. Correct call.

If he had no communication with the referee the game should have been stopped until he did have. If it wasn't working at the kick off then its poor preparation from the linesman. He shouldn't be on the pitch either. He is supposed to run the line, not run the line with it a yard behind him.

It failed towards the end of the season half. He's still got a flag so the game doesn't need stopping. It'll have been sorted at half time.

He got most of his calls correct. It hardly matters where he was running as long as he does just that.

Eugh hate this. The idea of interfering with play. I know I'm in a minority but it just seems so wrong. I can't believe that when the founding football fathers sat down and devised the offside rule, they had in mind disallowing goals because someone on the far side was stood beyond the last defender three passes ago and may or may not have caught the keeper's eye. Surely it was just to stop the tactic of goal scrounging.

Totally agree with you. Unless they're stood in front of the goalkeeper to the point where he can't see, I don't like it...

Haven't seen it yet but this is so familiar. Refs have been giving us incredibly harsh harsh reds all season and every time it's been quick as a flash like they absolutely can't wait to do it. Surely they should be certain if they're giving a red yet its about the 5th or 6th time this season we've had a ref give us a red card instantly like it's absolutely clear cut when it really really isn't.

I've said it before but were easy to punish and it goes unnoticed. No way would Stoke get these decisions against them at home but refs aren't scared of crowds like ours. When you go to some grounds you notice how much stick the ref gets for every decision even when it's obviously right. It definitely affects their decisions.
You're blaming our fans?

<laugh>

Agreed.

Although really wish that she'd written:

Niang unleashed an anguished, piercing, scream, reminiscent of a young maiden upon discovering an arachnid scuttling down her blouse; so loud it could be heard in one of England’s highest press boxes.
Niang unleashed an anguished, piercing, scream so loud it made Jay Tabb sound like Ted Lowe.

Am I the only one who when it happened at full speed thought he could be off here? Maybe my eyesight is going but it looked high and clumsy to me , not sticking up for the ref as he is only 10 yards away and I was 200 , just wondered if at the time anybody else saw why it was given?
200 yards would put you outside the stadium . I suggest you got your eyes tested .

Niasse was offside then passed the ball back and the linesman stood with his flag in the air for about thirty seconds before Madley finally saw it.

That wasn't what the offside flag was for, it was only called so late because Madley is hopeless.

Niang went down 'cos Niasse's foot caught him. Didn't see it as over-acting particularly.

How the Clown Shoe, who was staring directly at the tackle from about 10 yards away, deemed it a straight red is beyond me.

Players know. Look at Niasse's eyes when he sees the red. His expression is one of total disbelief. He knew it was just an innocuous late challenge. Nothing more.

It really was a ridiculous decision but I don't think Niang had any bearing on an incompetent piece of refereeing.
There's absolutely no way Niang felt the pain he showed after Niasse's challenge. In fact, I thought he did well to sense there'd been any contact at all.

Yeah, I see that now. At the time I was only focused on the red. Watching the replays and reading stuff I can see now that Niang played the ref like a cheap fiddle.
