some have cited that his crossing is crap. i would say we are not the type of team that gets a player to the byline for crosses.Lallaona and chaplow (steevie as well) both tend to play through the defence with the ball on the floor. The crosses generally come from about 40yards from Fox and Richarson once the initial attack is booted out by thier defence.

If you had to choose, would you prefer Chris Marsden or Richard Chaplow in your team?

Not sure that's a fair comparison. Marsden had quite a cultured left foot, took up good positions on the pitch, and could spread the play. He was also a pretty good tackler. Chaplow is not the same player, by any means, but he plays in the modern high energy game in an even higher energy style, which is something Marsden could never do. The present game and team setup is biased in favour of Chaplow.

Now if you said would I prefer say... a modern Alan Ball, with all the advantages of today's diet and fitness, I'd choose Bally any day of the week. In fact, I'd choose Bally over a lot of players, so perhaps that's just as unfair. But they were much more similar players.

Chaplow deserves his chance at the highest level in our side as much as anyone else. He is an integral part of a side that won automatic promotion just over a week ago. To talk about disgarding him is just wrong, same with Hammond. We will strenghten but Nigel has already said they must fit in and I guess like Billy have to wait for their chance. Wether that is after one game or ten, those players got us up and deserve their chance. It is only our perception that certain players and even Nigel himself can cut it at the top level. The fact is we don't know how any one will perform in our team at that level until they are given a chance and Chaplow and Hammond are as deserving as anyone else

I agree really - I was just remembering that I asked a similar thing following a similar discussion back when Chaplow was really in-form. At that time the thinking was that Chaplow was much better, but I tended to disagree for the reasons you've mentioned above.

The thing with Marsden was that he gelled particularly well with Wayne Bridge down the left, I don't remember him ever playing so well after Bridge left. In that sense, Chaplow is more versatile.
