There's been a bit of negative posting about about Chaplow on here in the last few days. That's fine, but some of it has been unmerited and unnecessarily harsh in my view. Here are some facts which I found interesting:

Saints overall win ratio (league and cups): 57%

Win ratio with Chaplow in the side: 70% (68% if you include Bristol City away where he was subbed after 7 mins)

Win ratio with Chaplow out the side: 48% (including Bristol City away)

Saints overall goals for was 99 / overall against was 56 = +43 GD

With Chaplow on the pitch (taking into account various times at which he was subbed on and off): 42 for / 17 against = +25

With Chaplow off the pitch (again, taking into account being substituted and coming off the bench): 57 for / 39 against = +18

Asides from the 20%+ win ratio swing, another thing that caught my eye is that we've only conceded 17 times with Chaplow on the pitch (whilst still scoring plenty). I personally think he'll be a good squad player for next season and beyond - and he's a popular figure amongst the players too (which is not something to be underestimated).

NB: saintrichie123 wrote a similar post earlier on with different win percentages - these were for league only and showed a 67% win ratio with Chaplow in the side, and a 42% win ratio when he was out of the side.
 
We'll have a better win ratio without him in the side and with a proper quality winger.
 
He was absolutely briliant the first half of this season, one of our best players, although he dropped off after his injury. Most people have said the same. He is sefinitely deserving of a place in the squad.

There has only been one person slating chaplow tbh. He has just been repeating himself on every thread to try and bait a reaction from people.

It's my opinion and I will stick to it - Chaplow will not cut it in the Prem.
 
personally, I really like the guy. cannot believe the negativity shown to him. his form dropped off after injury, but he is still an important and versatile member of the squad. he wears his shirt with pride and always gives 100%. very similar type of player to park(man utd), underrated by opposition but the fans know the good job he does. chaplow probably runs 30% more than other players which means the opposite left back has to stay with him and cannot venture forward, meaning Richardson can get forward more. the side is much better balanced with him and he can move more central to help shut a game out.chris marsden showed you do not have to quick and beat 10 players to play in the Premiership. Another thing is, it will piss off Ferguson Jnr no end.
 
In defense of JakeW's opinion, Chappers isn' the most technically gifted of our players and he MAY come unstuck in the Prem. However where I can't defend JakeW is his timing and lack of thought to the effort and contribution Chappers has made. The one line derogatory remark reads very poorly. For crying out loud let's enjoy promotion and leave the player bashing till at least July.

Whatever, I'll do what I want.
 
I'd keep him in the squad. I don't think he'll start a lot of games, but he has his merits and keeping as much of the squad together as possible will be good for morale and continuity.

But will it be good for the wage bill?
 
I'm not convinced Chaplow will cut it in the Premier League. He was shocking against Reading. You can't blame his injury on performances for 2 months. He does work hard but his crossing is utter ****e and there is no room for him in CM as Cork and Schneiderlin are considerably better than him.
 
I like Chappers, but he isn't the answer to our attacking midfield, would still keep him in the squad though, as you know he will give 100% if asked.

No, I did see him pre-Bristol, and he was indeed very good.

However I also saw him in every game he played in 2012, and he was dog ****e. Against Millwall away he was shockingly bad - pub football standard.
 
The main problem is, he was excellent BEFORE the injury. And has been WOEFUL since. If he can regain his pre-injury form then great, otherwise he shouldn't be near the side
