About Siggy, don't go shooting the piano player now, My man on the beach is back and he's whispered in my ear again. He's adamant that, Siggys has done nothing but show loyalty to the club, he's said he is happy here and that he's not looking to leave us. He is unhappy with us though because he feels a little betrayed because instead of saying he wasnt for sale we put an offensive price tag on his head instead. One which will make him the centre of attention and a target for the press to aim at all summer long. That's why he is pissed off and has nothing to do with Everton, wanting to leave or not being in the right frame of mind to kick a bag full of air around a field for a living. There is loads I could go into about tapping up of Siggy but the end point is, its all unfounded but the board had a knee jerk reaction to Everton snooping around because they did tap Ash up last year and they haven't forgotten that. I wont go on coz it would take forever. From everything he said though it made me look at the saga of Gylfie Sigursson again but from a different perspective, Siggys. Just looking at it and trying to ignore deep set feelings, prejudices and unfounded rumours about it so, this is what I can see. For whatever reason Siggy did not go on pre-season tour, my man on the beach insists that Siggy was prevented from going by the board while they got to the bottom of the tapping up allegations, which he says are pretty much unfounded. Whatever the reason, at no time before or since has Siggy approached the press or been quoted by anyone, offering 'his side to the story' surrounding him. In fact, at no time has done anything to support any claim that he wants to leave us. That's something we've put on him through unfounded rumour, assumption and innuendo, he's said nothing other than he wants to stay here. Everyday while the team was away in the States Siggy came in to work and trained with the U23's. If he was disgruntled or desperate to leave or in such a poor frame of mind I seriously doubt the club would allow such a destabilising influence anywhere near their youngsters, all with aspiring to wear Siggys boots in years to come. Its just inconceivable for such a negative influence to be given access to the future of the club. Also if he was in such a poor frame of mind I suggest, he certainly wouldn't want to train with the U23's, preferring to train alone. Surely training with a junior team, taking professional ego into account, would be below him? He obviously didn't, so he did. Siggys actions don't line up with emotions of someone desperate to leave the club but I admit they don't mean he doesn't want to leave but if he was desperate to go wouldn't he have put in a transfer request? or said something like 'I want a new challenge' or behaved like he wants out, like Ross Barkley? Just looking at things from another point of view.
That would go hand in hand with all of his statements about not wanting to leave the club at the end of the season. It also goes with what Clement said about him making it clear that he wants Gylfi to stay but pointed out that football is a 'business'. That translates as the Yank bastards wanting to sell if the price is right. Remember, these pricks haven't spent a penny yet. He also hasn't handed in a transfer request etc too.
"unfounded rumour, assumption and innuendo". Ah, the very stuff that fuels the furnaces of 606. Nice post, by the way, stumpy.
Depending on his source, it might not be a rumour though? At least it gives us something to debate during the summer.
If he doesn't want to go, then why does he want to talk to Everton? He's been left out of the squad today, and that tells me he has gone, as Sky sports are reporting, lets get this farce completed, and get his replacement in pronto, and I take with a pinch of salt anything our board state, or what they 'leak' in defence of speculation surrounding all this, lets move on...................
Maybe because he's pissed off at being messed about by the club given everything he's done in keeping us up last year? He's always said publicly that he wanted to stay, the YANKS WANT to cash in on him.
Show me the quote where he says "I want to leave" or "I want to talk to Everton". Agree with you though Phill, I think he's definitely on his way out. Sooner the better too, not because I want shot of Siggy but because the sooner he goes the more time we have to react and adjust. The board may have different ideas though and may be biding their time so they can make the deal post August 1st. If they do that they wont have to pay any tax on it until next year (thanks for the info never ). Also, allegedly, we stand to lose 10% of any deal we make for Siggy due to a 'sell on' agreement we have with Spurs. Could be the reasons for the delay and if so he may go for a lot less than £50m after 1st Aug. Anyway, I'm off for a short break now so I'll see y'all in a week, maybe 10 days or so. Have fun
Enjoy!........................ "In the UD there is the conviction that Swansea will reach the 30 million that stipulates the termination clause of Jonathan Viera, which will make inevitable the march of the canterano to the Premier League despite the importance and hierarchy that has in the project." - UD Las Palmas Link: https://www.canarias7.es/deportes/f...pague-la-clausula-de-jonathan-viera-YG1594706
Tbh, anyone rather than Viera will be an underwhelming replacement for Gylfi now. Sure as hell hope it isn't Chadli.
My guess is that on Monday a bid will be made Gylfi travels up on Tuesday to discuss terms and bobs your uncle, deal done in 2018 figures. Come Friday next week I hope we would have brought in his replacement.
