Give some people a million pounds and they ask why it isn't 2 million. I for one am 100% delighted with someone else spending £45million on my club to make it look so fantastic. When those red lights came on in the video I have a little shivery moment. How brilliant is it all. I want to hug the Landsdown's for giving my children a club they can be proud of. I can't wait to get down the new Gate.
Whether I will ever see this new version of Ashton Gate is questionable but nonetheless I think it looks like an upgrade of high quality. Like some others my biggest regret is that we haven't made any attempt (yet) to make it look like that Atyeo Stand is actually a part of the new stadium. With all the other work that has been undertaken surely the addition of joined up wings on each end the Atyeo to blend with the new changes on the Williams and Dolman stands would be the cheapest and easiest part of the whole project. Ship and ha'peth of tar comes to mind, especially if we want to make our revamped home ship shape and Bristol fashion.
Don't think we can do anything with the Atyeo as its got a height restriction. Hence I believe is why the Dolman could not wrap round to it plus you have to have exit routes.
I agree with everything you said. Watching this morning, brought tears to my eyes. At long last, I really do believe that there are good times ahead for Bristol City and Bristol Rugby after so many false dawns. While I acknowledge that there are some aspects of the new stadium that some will not like, this is a great big improvement on what we have had for the last twenty years and in my opinion, will give a big lift to both clubs and their supporters. I just hope I live long enough to enjoy it for a few years. PS. For Invermere and others. Don't despair about the Atyeo. That will be dealt with three/four years down the line if the anticipated success arrives.
The Atyeo could have been incorporated into the design but the height restriction would remain due to the houses to the rear. The roof would require complete re-engineering to lose the two vertical supports and that would be very expensive plus if it was a seamless design, we would have one of those weird roof drops - anyone seen the Forest Ground where they had similar height restrictions? Looks a bit silly. I would have preferred the Ashton Vale solution but in all fairness, the new Gate looks very impressive. 27k is plenty for now.
I think the slightly unfinished Ashton Gate looks great and will look forward to the final finished product in the future.
That's my understanding too I believe SL/City own some of the houses behind the stand and wanted to buy the remainder, presumably so the stadium could have a uniform look, but some households are unwilling to sell up. Not sure how much of this is true.
My point is that the cost of the project per 1000 seats would decrease if we went for more than 27000. I remain convinced if we ever made the Premiership and had a good team we could easily average over 30000. People seem to forget Bristol has the second biggest GDP and a huge catchment area. What it does not have is a culture of football support. Having said that the car parking problem to me remains the Achilles heel. I would also add that sometimes I find it difficult to understand why someone's point of view is considered as moaning. Life is after all about opinions
but if we have a 27,000 seater and are in the championship for god knows how long we'll only get about 15k.... It's all well and good saying we'll sell out if we're in the prem but we're not. We're a league 1 team and 27,000 is enough.
Your point of view to which you are perfectly entitled seems to be negative to everything on every thread, I am countering that with my point of view to which I am also entitled as I would like to remain positive, especially as I have just witnessed what was probably the worst period in our (my) Bristol City history. You have this week decided that Kieran Agard is no good and should be replaced with no real evidence to suggest why, he has just come back from a long term injury and has scored on his full return, why don't you give him a little time and maybe a pre season with us and then judge him, time after time players settle in to clubs fully during their second season. its not like we are struggling is it? You have likened our stadium to a mini moke as opposed to a Rolls Royce, besides the fact that the vast majority of City fans are extolling their delight at what will be delivered..and why would you need to worry about the project cost being lower when you're not paying, empty seats would would not enhance our image one bit. Besides, as you're so concerned about cost and finances you should worry more about all these loan signings you keep wanting to come in every 5 minutes and unbalance a squad that has the best morale I have seen at Ashton Gate in my living memory. We may need another striker in to see us over the line but I'm sure Cotterill will know if and when.
If you have ever worked in customer services you would understand that you seldom receive bouquets only brickbats. Every business learns from how its customers are dissatisfied or critical and then aspires to understand those issues. A point at hand is the Community Trust in that I wrote to them earlier this year about the claiming of Gift Aid and they never bothered to reply. Now this afternoon they rang up trying to get me to join and I declined, why because perception is everything. I genuinely feel the way the Club in all its forms deals with its customers leaves a lot to be desired. That is a culture thing. Incidentally I said that Agard is hardly prolific and of League One standard and I stand by that and many of my fellow season ticket holders agree. I try and base my comments on what I feel is right and am not driven by blind faith.
No blind faith here, I'm too long in the tooth.. But moaning for moanings sake, I'll leave that to the missus and her mates.
As soon as someone starts a one on one I know its time to quit as there are more important things in life. Have a nice day
Watching the new Ashton Gate made me feel so proud of being a Bristol City supporter, even allowing for the fact the presentation was like a glossy commercial... Back to earth then and no pressures on promotion this season.
