This won't go down well with some groups of people, but I believe all Police should be armed in this country.
They need to seriously reconsider their recruitment strategy too, as I don't think a lot of officers have sufficient fitness standards or have the awareness.

I have a feeling that we have already lost one of our number over this and I am sorry that he feels that he feels this way!
Having seen how this thread has developed CT, I wonder if you stand by your reply to my original post. The ignore button is NOT the answer. The issue is not whether one is interested in the topic of a thread or not; it is the potential for damage to our forum "family" (your term). We come from all walks of life, and one would hope we have contributors of all colours, races, and creeds, political persuasions, and so on; we are united by a common interest in football and NCFC in particular. We enjoy our discussions, and the banter between us. And we try to respect each others opinions and discuss what is said, not who is saying it (even then, from time to time, we don't always succeed when the topic is the relatively trivial one of football). If people regard this forum as a place to air their views about anything and everything, however important it is and however controversial their views on it may be, it will soon impossible to focus on the post irrespective of the poster, whatever the topic.
Yes,I understand what you are saying on this.I wasn't however the one asking for reprisals against muslims.To put the record straight I was a Labour councillor for fourteen years (JWM foams at mouth!) so I don't have a record of racism.When i go abroad I enjoy the company of foreigners,am interested in their culture and customs and I am generally a pro-European (JWM goes into apoplexy) However,I do stop short of being a tree hugger and live in the real world.
It is my considered opinion that a significant minority of the followers of Islam have rather more than the praise of Allah on their agendas.It is only a minority but it seems that the more sensible ones have their work cut out controlling these firebrands.Our leades furthermore seemed frightened to do anything to help this situation.

Good Post CT but just to correct you in as much as just because I am a right wing Tory, it doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the company of foreigners! I am the European sales director for a global publishing company and most of my clients are from all parts of Europe and the Middle Eastern countries which I frequently go and visit. I just think that we shouldn't be governed by Europe and that we should be free as a sovereign country to make our own laws, be able to control our own borders, deport those that shouldn't be here but we should co-operate on a number of issues such as the Environment, Trade and Terrorism with our European partners if we so chose! There is nothing Xenophobic about that and I deplore those who like to label people of my political views as being so!

On a separate point.Plaudits to all contributors for not letting this thread get out of hand.I was probably a little naughty in starting it immediately after the Redruth one got locked.There are clear differences of opinion still but it has generally been kept at a good natured discussion level.Sorry JWM if you thought that I characterised you as a knuckle-dragger.
As you mentioned in a previous post, we have both had a right old ding-dong on the Maggie Thatcher thread. I like to think that we have a certain amount of mutual respect for each other's opinions even if we think that each other's are completely wrong!
