    Right lads need some help.

Need to buy a used car. A saloon type about 2013 and above. Been buying new for a few years now so not up to date with spending big on used. Have bought used for kids but usually cheapish as they passed their tests so not worried about it being a dud.

Preferably diesel as will be doing serious mileage.

What out their is reliable? Liked the look of the Vauxhall insignia but heard they are not all that. Audi are expensive but reliable

Does mileage matter as much as it did if looked after?

You're gonna get a wide range of views mate. As everybody thinks they know best and what one person advises, then next will tell you not to go for it.

Personally always gone for BMW/Audi/VW. Reliable German units that if looked after will go on for ever, so service history is important if it's a high miler.

    Agree with this tbh.

Currently diesel is only better for mileage if you are doing A LOT of long distance driving otherwise petrol is just as good. Add in that diesel cars are getting spanked in the next few years and you'll have an assett which is depreciating faster than it's petrol equivalent plus the fuel itself is likely to fall in demand over time, be resourced less and become comparably more expensive.

Oh and, as someone who has a diesel i got a few years ago which I am planning to drive until it breaks down in many years time, given the negative publicity diesels get regarding children and pollution I fully expect that in 5 years time it will be socially acceptable to drag a diesel driver out through the driver side window and start beating them to death for being the sole cause of all pollution in the world. Think of the children. For ****s sake, think of the children.

    ps. check whatcar.

My van looks like it might be nearing the end of it's life. Looking at a new gearbox, turbo, and the ****er has done 520k so I'm reluctant to pour any more money into it. I need a van / people carrier type of vehicle for my job and lifestyle. Something I can lob my bike in the back off, surfboard on the roof, lugging stuff around for my business.

Looking for recommendations. Currently got a VW T5, before that had Touareg and before that a Volvo XC90. Been looking at Caddy Maxi but they aren't cheap and they are a bit 'wheelchair' if you get my drift.

Would prefer to stay on German platform if poss. VW/AUDI/BMW/MERC maybe Seat or Skoda ?

What do you guise reckon ?
