    Still torn but narrowing down the search. There are now three definite candidates;

5 series BMW. No longer has to be the tourer.
The Jag XF still a strong contender.
BMW X3 coming up on the rails.

Getting my finances sorted in a week or two then looking to buy before end of March.

    It won't have black wheels.

Any idea on what 5 series now it doesn't have to be the tourer?

What about a Touareg or Q7 ? Touareg is on the same platform as the Porsche Cayenne. I've got an older one and it's a dream to drive. Tons of room inside too.

Mate of mine has a garage.

He's got two, an SE with 40k on the clock which is a 2010 model and a sport with 43k on the clock which is a 2013 model.

The latter is 4k more expensive but I prefer it, obvs.

The pragmatist in me says save yourself 4k, spend a few hundred on a personal plate. Who's to know the other is much older?

Great car, we had a 535d M sport for a few years, lovely cars.
Can't comment on the Tourer but they'd probably suit kids and dogs far better.

    Don't fancy q7 and a q5 doesn't stack up compared to an X3.

Toureg is an option, just haven't seen one. Not been looking if truth be told.

X3’s are ****e, they’re useless off road and a compromise on it, if you want a roomy BMW that’s not the car for you imho.

If you want an SUV that’s a completely different market to the large saloon / tourer market mate, and there’s bags of choice.

    I don't really.

Was swayed slightly by her while we were away but the truth is large estate is what I want.

There’s some cracking SUVs out there now, but the X3 isn’t one of them.

I’d stick to your guns and buy what you really want, which sounds to me like the 5 tourer, if you compromise you could end up with buyers remorse....

You can buy the 5 series X drive. That’ll do pretty much all an X3 can do?...

The X5 is a different beast completely, as it’s a purpose designed large SUV. The X3 is a total compromise in comparison.

Don’t mean the X5 mate. I meant the 5 series Xdrive - the 4wd version...

Couple of my mates have the A4 tourer. 2ltr S Line, loads of room in the boots too. If you get the Quattro you get the benefit of 4wd.

I’m not a fan of the interiors of Audi’s though. The 5 series feel more luxurious inside and the Audi’s feel more sporty.

I think the X3 is a bit ugly. I have to find a car aesthetically pleasing on the eye.
