well it is true i'm nowhere near as impressed as everyone else but obviously i'm right and you are all wrong. Might just be i'm a tight sod & still haven't fully recovered from the idea of paying £75m for an injured CB , i repeat CB.
I didn't like all the drama that went with it and wasn't fussed one way or the other but since he joined, he's had the desired effect on the team. I'm never bothered about the money because it isn't mine. In an ideal world those sums of money would go to feed the hungry and help the homeless but it's out of our control.
my problem is everyone attributes our (slightly) better defence to VVD where as i think the move to a more functional MF 3 , emphasised by Henderson sitting deeper , following sale of coutinho & replacing Moreno with Robbo is at least as much to do with those changes as VVD. Edit - personally think next season is where we may see the defence show greater improvement as they have pre season to work o structures.
There's always the intangible i.e. the effect a player has just by being on the pitch. The team feel strengthened and play as though they are strengthened just because they 'believe' they are. If that makes sense.
I think the 3 workman like midfielders and Robbo have made a positive impact but VVD is the single biggest contributing factor. We could also talk about Karius improving as well.
Karius was improving you're right. The CL final was too big for him, he had stage fright. If you look at our CL games they were won by the strikers, he was never really tested which in hindsight may have helped prepare him for the final. He was doing ok in the league. None of us have ever felt he was a keeper for us [pun intended] but we certainly didn't expect the rookie errors on the biggest stage there is.
Two rumoured targets for us - Fekir and Lascelles are club captains. Is this a part of our recruitment criteria? Leaders
Wouldn't that cause issues though? Ie too many on pitch that think they are in charge. Ps I have quoted 2 of your posts, I'm not picking on you lol
I don’t think it would create many issues. I think we need more players who stand up and take responsibility on the pitch. Far too many go into hiding when things don’t go our way. The CL final was the last straw - you would think we had a man sent off and had to retreat.
have you considered that the manager may have told them to retreat and try & catch RM on the break ?.
