I don't think he had much of an impact at all, neat and tidy and a good pro. He's done a good job but that doesn't mean we shouldn't look toward the squad an if there is someone who is capable of being an inspirational captain.

But it’s not really on the pitch that you see the job of captain. Maybe when heads are down, rallying the troops but it’s the responsibilities off the pitch, in the dressing room and having managers trust. Hendo clearly has those atm. Now not saying maybe not someone better but we see them for 90mins a week, we have no idea what goes on and what he potentially does behind the scenes for morale

That's right and that is essentialy the question, if the answer is yes then Hendo should be moved aside.

I think vvd does his job well enough. I can't see him doing more with an armband.

Frimino sorry but he's not really a good english speaker so he doesn't do interviews.

Ox impressed greatly over the course of his debut season. He could be a long term candidate.

I tmean ok lets se:

karius - **** no
TAA - too young.
Lovern <laugh>
VVD - has the right organsiasational skill. is he too laid back to drive on a dressing room?
Robertson - right attidue and work ethic
Henderson - incumbant
Kieta - not even here
Ox -impressed
Firmino - not up for talking
Mane - same
Salah - too quiet

TBH looking at that lot theres one or two like robertson and ox i like their attitude but who knows.

I think the brown envelope stuck i nthe back pocket has more influence than a gobby capatin. Also carragher always did this role for us while gerrard was on the pitch. FIrst over i ntheir face.

It just shows how leadership is not an armband. The captain and vice captain deal is more about bestowing some level of official backing to the senior guys to boss the dressing room and hunt out the guys not working hard enough.
You're right, leadership isn't an armband but if you accept it then you need to lead. Very clichéd now but Gerrard in Istanbul was the ultimate example of captaincy.

Don't really care...The way Klopp plays us in each area if one person drops intensity the system starts to break down.

It's up to the leaders in each area of the team to pull someone's socks up....

Perfect example was the way Klopp let Lovren stand up and give a rollicking that the team was dropping to deep onto the CB's in the City match. . Then said "you are right! But its because you two are not pushing them forward."

If it was just a captain's role then you'd expect Henderson or Milner to notice and call this.

I want a team where any player is strong enough to grab the next man and say wake up. Slowly I think we are getting that.

But in a traditional sense? I actually think by the time Hendo is phased out Robertson will be perfect.

I did love him for that. :)
Can't remember who but read recently that an ex player said the minute he saw Henderson putting Suarez in his place [in the dressing room]he knew that he would be a good captain. Not sure he is a good captain and not too bothered really but it's nice to hear these snippets. Together with that video, he's shown he's not afraid to stand his ground.

Yes!! VVD for the captain please. VVD has already come in and become the leader of the defence. He can do the same for the rest of the team.

I understand the point that you don’t need the armband to be a leader but sometimes you don’t want to undermine the captain.

I’m sorry but Hendo simply isn’t a captain or a leader. Screaming at players and pointing doesn’t make him a leader. Being a bottler on the ball doesn’t make him a leader.

But most of all - failing to rally the troops once Salah went off in the final and inspire the team when they most needed it - that is ultimately why he is not a leader. He simply doesn’t inspire.

The best thing about Fabinho arriving means Hendo will get less game time and we finally have someone who can protect the defence.

Hendo is a nice lad and puts in a shift - I reckon he would flourish without the burden of captainancy.

Wouldn’t remove it from Hendo. He’s just captained ya to the CL final and would be a real kick in the teeth for him and undermine him.

Milner is VC atm so he may step aside given he will only be here another year or two and hand it over to VVD in prep.

Also I noticed the final press conference before the CL final was Klopp, Hendo and VVD.

I should imagine Hendo will keep it this year with VVD vice. The following year VVD to take the armband and lead us into battle.

My choice would 100% be VVD. He's got all the attributes to be an excellent captain.

He acts like one anyway, I remember him being questioned about his organising of the back line and he said it's a huge part of his game. He needs to know people are positioned correctly for his own performance.

Also VVD is only laid back when not involved in football.

On the pitch he won't take any **** from the players and in the dressing room he's a beast (apparently).

I mean that in a good way. He's ready made to be a captain imo. Wasn't he Southampton's captain and also currently the Dutch captain?

VVD has only been with us 6 months & has enough to do improving his and the whole defence performance without adding more to it. Personally like the idea of area "captains" i.e. Defence , midfield & attack as well as formal captain.
