So this weekend sees the team play their very first match on the brand new pitch at CR and I’m sure the grounds staff have not spared any water to ensure that it is in tip top condition ready for kick-off tomorrow. Unsurprisingly, the Baggies start as slight favourites and I’m hoping that Rhodes can open his account and I’d be amazed if the Baggies fail to score and our defence will be tested to the hilt – especially if Gayle plays all/part of the game. Was it you DD, who ALWAYS insisted we SHOULD’VE signed him???? From today's presser - Lewis dead leg 2 days ago set back his fitness return. No chance for this weekend. HELP!!!! Stiepermann and Pinto in the squad for tomorrow. DF not surprised by #wba sluggish start. Convinced still one of the favs and expects Gayle to start tomorrow. Edit - I'm optimistic that we can sneak a draw, but just hope we play well and no charity from the defence!!!
Nice one JMF! Sadly, if we had signed Gayle, he'd now be too expensive in wages for us to keep him. Very hard game to call. Home advantage will help but it depends on the players realising their potential. Same could be said of WBA. Should give us an idea of our chances this season (and theirs).
Very early season for both teams and I'm hoping for an entertaining game, with plenty of attacking from both sides and I should think you'd get quite good odds at the bookies for a 0-0 scoreline. Just seen this and it emphasises what I said in a post a few weeks ago - 'We have the cup game next week and it is important many players get minutes. You know my philosophy. There is no difference between cup and league and I want to go past Stevenage to go to the next round so it is not about giving game time away to bring in new lads.' I'll be at CR for both games. Sky preview doesn't add much (and is out of date), so haven't added it.
Or maybe his goals would have got us promoted ? 23 goals in 32 games for Newcastle the year I wanted him . Always so negative Rick.
Not negative, just philosophical about our current situation, DD. Gayle has got a good record in the Championship, but has never been able to carry it up to the PL. He'll probably score a hat trick tomorrow!
Good article on City's present situation from Robin Sainty: http://www.pinkun.com/opinion/robin-sainty-ncfc-column-1-5646072 A lot at stake today.
Well if we had a 23 goal striker last season ,with our mainly rigid defence we would probably have gone up kept Maddison and even Gunn possibly. The wages wouldn't have been an issue. I remember he was set to join us in the January transfer window when we were in the prem even visiting our facilities then palace broke the deal off as they had an injury to one of their forwards. We then swooped for Naismith got relegated and Newcastle signed him in the Summer. The rest is history, Toon went up and we got lumbered with Naismith and his bloated wages.
Yes, that narrow miss in January was painful. No guarantee that he could have kept us up, but he'd have been useful the following season. Once Newcastle wanted him though, we had no chance.

That looks more like it! 4-1-4-1, some attacking quality on the pitch, and Pinto at LB. Hopefully there's enough cover for the defence, Tettey has a big job.
I see that Pinto is back in the side , never in doubt that he would be where he belongs at right back again. Looks like a balanced attacking side ,let's hope we can score before 90 minutes today so the pant wetters don't get over excited again .
That's a better line up! Would have liked that kind of selection at a weak Birmingham, WBA are a tougher test. Is Pinto playing LB then? Has he or Marshall ever played LB before? I think Marshall has played LM before....is that good enough?
Is Trybull injured? Thought he would be at least in the squad. Looking at it, in place of Stiepermann I would guess.
