Can Hamilton finish 4th, or possibly 3rd in the WDC?

Here are the updated Championship Standings:

1 Sebastian Vettel 374
2 Jenson Button 255
3 Fernando Alonso 245
4 Mark Webber 233
5 Lewis Hamilton 227

Hamilton is now six points behind Webber, and eighteen points behind Alonso. In Brazil I expect Red Bull to have the edge on McLaren, with Ferrari a bit more competitive as well. The way Webber is driving though, there's a good chance Hamilton will finish ahead of Webber in Brazil - but will it be enough to beat Webber in the Championship?

Does anyone expect him finish 4th or possibly 3rd?
 
I'm pleased Button has now secured the No. 3 for next year, everyone wrote him off against Hamilton. In 37 races Hamilton has scored 467 points to Button's 469, it's a remarkably tight rivalry.

I think McLaren will struggle in Brazil, they run a very stiff car and Interlagos is very bumpy so I can't see Hamilton improving his position. It does throw up unpredictable races though, so maybe he could. I hope Button and Alonso hang onto 2nd and 3rd though, I think it would be a fitting reflection of the season.
 
It's a fair possibilty for 4th, but 3rd is gonna need a bit of luck, he needs an Alonso DNF and a top 2

This is a very good point actually AG. Interlagos is really a Red Bull circuit. However, I still think Hamilton will just eclipse Webber's points tally.

P.S. Are you referring the the last 37 races with that interesting statistic?
 
Hamilton never seems to do well at brazil, he might have got a good result without the gearbox issue, 5th in 08, 2009 was ok, then didn't look all that good last year either.
 
I'd like to see him snatch 4th place; despite his 'troubled' season, he's been better than Webber. Will he? There's a reasonable chance.
 
4th is possible but I dont think hes really bothered about the standings now the championship is over, its all about race wins and ending the season on a high in preparation for 2012.
 
looks like lewis needed one more race. I still think he'll do well in brazil despite their car not being the best for the track. I think this win will give him the motivation and confidence to get on the podium.

The support he had today was like it was in his first couple of seasons, which is what he needed. It doesnt help that his dad manages Paul, and his brothers is away most weekends racing himself.

He definitely needs to do what he suggested in the forum and invite as many family and and friends as he can to all the races.With the support, he's on form. And when he's on form, he's brilliant.

I agree with MB that today he dominated this race, mainly because of the positive attitude he had. His drive today was very much like some of Vettel's this year; dominating the race, and not putting a foot wrong.

So i'd love to see Vettel and Hamilton in very equally matched cars, fighting against each other, when they have no other distractions like Lewis has had this season. Would be very interesting to see
 
I was bummed to see Vettel go out so early... I wanted to see if Hamilton could take the fight to him. I doubt he'd have been able to drive such a controlled race with Vettel still on track and may have provided a good scrap. It was quite a dull race all in all (apart from some of the Webber/ Button action).

Hopefully this win will be the tonic he needs to get back on top of his game, but 4th is probably the best he can hope for overall.
 
4th should be possible for Hamilton, but depends on how even the cars will be in Brazil. 3rd? Well unless Alonso gets a DNF then I can't see it happening, even then he'd need to be on the podium.
