Can 'Arry' do tactics ?.

Someone obviously set up the Spurs team to get a draw today. The midfield was packed-out almost bursting and we tried to retain possession at the expense of any thing else. Unfortunatly, what happened was that, we got what we played for (0-0draw).

The Chelsea side today looked like an audition for the 'Dads Army' show, (No disrespect to 'Dads Army' intended). IF we had played our normal game today, Spurs IMO, could have won this game. On the other hand, should we be satisfied with a draw at Chelsea and yet another point closer to Champions League football.

So
a) Were these infact the right tactics to employ when playing the chevs these days ?. and
b) Did Spurs give the Chevs too much respect before a single ball was kicked today ?. and
c) Is Harry now praticing good tactics ?.

i thought he got away with looking like he set us up right today..i felt we were solid and with a bit of composure we could have won it.

however generally speaking i dont rate him tactically and never have...have been slated for coming across negative...but i do believe that HR does not have the tactical nous to guide us onto another level...im not saying get rid..im just saying he cant do tactical battles too well.

The problem is that he is likely to react to the suggestion he should be paired with someone who can angrily, and threaten to quit.

very true...he picks his own backroom..however i do believe he will leave and that could open up the opportunity to get such a man...and once again im not saying there is better out there for us.
 
Harry is tactically naive and makes subs far too late in games for them to make a difference.

He also doesn't trust the squad and that in turn means our key players get tired towards the end of the season and we struggle.

In many ways I'll be glad to see someone new come in this summer.

Even though Redknapp has done a great job as I feel he has taken us as far as he can and we need a fresh approach.
 
depends who we get KH...as i think this squad can get better with a better tactician...we need to go up a level..not sideways.
 
Of course Harry can do tactics. Do you seriously believe a manager could survive as long in the game as he has if he couldn't do tactics ?? Do you really believe a manager who can't do tactics would survive long enough in the game to reach the milestone of 1000 games as manager ?? Do you seriously believe that some of the most respected names in football would be genuinely backing him as capable of being our national manager if they thought he wasn't tactically good enough ??

As for the "picks his own backroom" comment, erm, of course he does, 99% of all mangers do the same.

Believe it or not, a teams tactics are often dictated by what the opposition do, are often changed by maybe conceding a goal early on, are often changed by usually reliable players not performing adequately. All of these have affected us recently, and by and large, Harry has got it right more often than not, including today.

Of course over a long season, there will be weaknesses which get highlighted. Our main one is set-pieces at both ends of the pitch and I wouldn't attempt to defend Harry on that, but to call him tactically inept is not on in my opinion.
 
the 'picks his own backroom' comment was not a dig..i was pointing out that he does so therefore...he wont get someone else in...but yeah i still question his tactics in certain matches....we can all do tactics to a certain extent...but at the top end it is the diffrence between say a Mancini and a Fergie..or even Redknapp and fergie.

I question his tactics in certain matches as well Dona, but I don't go around saying because he gets it wrong occasionally, that he ain't up to it, and it's time for him to go.
 
like i keep on re itterating in my posts above..im just questioning him..but i didnt say he should go or that we are guaranteed better out there..however i still stand by my claim that for us to maintain a longer challenge in the future for a title then we may need someone more astute and intricate with tactics than HR....many matches where fine lines have tipped it for the opposition.
 
You're quite within your rights as a fan to question our manager. And I am quite within my rights to defend hinm if I think fit.

Seems to me there were two managers in this game .... one of whom is due out the door very soon as Abramovic hires the Special One,
and the other may soon get a kick upstairs. Consequently the game was played cautiously on both sides so as not to lose.
And the result speaks for itself.
Cech made his usual great saves.
With more confidence Arry could have played to win, and won.
He's probably kicking hisself. Chelsea are looking long in the tooth, full of old men nowadays.
 
OK right, now, all that being said., I will throw this one in.,
If Harry was manager at say ManArab City or Manure, Do you think he is capable of winning the Premiership ?.

Well firstly, no-one has won the Premiership as manager of ManArabCity, and it is dubious as to anyone will this season, so your point is rather insignificant. Secondly, no-one on this thread has ever suggested that Harry might be/should be, a better tactical genius than SAF, so again your point is insignificant.

For any Spurs manager, be it Harry or anyone else you would prefer to see in charge, it's going to take a minimum of £50 million investment to overtake ManArabCity and Manure, rather than Harry gain more tactical nous.

ted.... Not so much certain players in mind, more the spending power needed to get to the next level and stay there. It's going to take a serious review of our pay structure and serious investment in a top CB, a top striker at the very least. they may not even be available, but if they are and for us to get them, is going to cost big money.
