The name "Gillespy" springs to mind. A has-been Irish winger, Round about Dowie or pardew's time.

A bit like Abbott's last-game volley, the only thing I remember Hope doing was away to Portsmouth in a Cup replay, when he beat two defenders, rounded the goalie and slotted home. Shocked and stunned. And we won 3-0, and I had a skinful of Gail's Ales.

Note:

I know Patrick Bauer won promotion with Charlton and lifted the Play-off Final trophy,
but these don't count as separate things in the Promotions / Cups section.
By 'Cups' the definition is stand-alone trophies;
FA Cup
League Cup
EFL Trophy

etc.

We won the first game he played in.
And none of the ten after that.

Ipswich I think

He was a bit marmite among folks I knew. My dad hated him, thought he was hugely over-rated. But his stats speak for themselves.
Had he stayed on for one more season Carl would have played in both the Lawrence & Curbishley top flight eras.

Acknowledged, Richard Rufus was convicted of serious fraud and jailed in 2023.
But to my knowledge he was not guilty of any criminality while a Charlton player.
So I hope nobody objects to him being included here.
His goal in the 1998 play-off Final will never be forgotten I'm sure.
