Nice little montage by Saints there - especially nice that it shows he clearly left on good terms! As thereisonlyoneno7 touched on, the goal vs. Cov brought back some nice memories. To be perfectly honest - I'd forgotten he'd scored that day! Though I remember twatbeard's, Jos and Fonte's goals like it was yesterday...
Billy was on Sky earlier - talking about his move on the phone. He said it had been difficult at Southampton at times, but he enjoyed himself whilst he was playing and had a great relationship with the fans. Wished the club luck and made a point of mentioning that Koeman actually gave him a chance and even when he had made his decision he didn't totally isolate Billy from the first team set-up, as had happened the season beforehand.
I'm sure he'll do well at Leeds. He deserved to go to a well supported clubs, hope he's a hit with the fans there.
Billy Sharp on Twitter: "Big thankyou to all the saints fans for their support during my time at the club, really enjoyed the good times promotion to the premier League was a dream come true and a highlight of my career, gutted it couldn't of been more but got memories forever thank you"
Thanks for everything Billy, top guy! Will never forget the goals v Pompey, or that memorable Coventry game
Unfortunately Billy was one of those players who was deadly within an exellent team in the Championship and one which needed every player at the peak of effectiveness in the Premier League. He was an excellent poacher, but teams in the PL can't afford the luxury of players who can do nothing else but poach goals. They have to be carried throughout games, and provided with chance after chance. Reading couldn't do it with Le Fondre, who was arguably every bit as good, maybe better, maybe not. But he was a poacher only as well, and they couldn't afford to play him most of the time. Billy will do an excellent job for Leeds Utd and goes with my very best wishes. That's been a rare emotion for me, towards ex-players, duriing this summer window.
Billy Sharp will always have a special place in our hearts because of his personal tragedy and his brilliant goals to help us cross the promotion line in 2011. Thanks Billy, hope to see you in the PL one day.
Aw man. I just saw the interview Sharp did on Sky. He said he thought it was his chance to shine with players leaving and he was gutted not to have it. He also said it was Koeman's choice and he just had to accept it. He went on to say he will always remember Southampton as well and wants to remember us for the good times and not for the frustrating times. He did actually look upset as well.
