I found German football amazingly organised mainly because they did not have a national league until about 1965, yet won the World Cup in 1954 with players who barely knew each other. I guess they had other priorities following 1945 but their record over the past fifty years is outstanding. At the back of it all is self belief and national pride often mistook as arrogance. Other nations see them as losers of two wars but they wipe much of that out with determination.
They beat the (arguably) best side in the World in 1954 too. As a nation they've definitely put what happened in the early part of the 20th century behind them.
