There will be celebrations this weekend as we celebrate 20 years back at the Valley. The oppostion come in the form of Gus Poyets Brighton who currently sit 8th in the table. Whilst we drew 0-0 against close rivals Millwall, Brighton weren't that far away playing against our other rivals Crystal Palace. They were beaten 3-0 and had to play with 10 men for over 80 minutes when Lewis Dunk was sent off.

The 4-0 defeat to Brighton two seasons was one of the best away performances I've seen from a team at the Valley in recent years and hopefully there will be no repeats of that. After the Millwall game i think it's clear we need a bit of pace upfront. If he's fit I would prefer Danny Haynes to Wright-Phillips as Haynes seems to be finding his scoring boots of late. Obviously we will have to watch out for the threat Brighton have upfront but I have complete faith in Morrison and Cort to do the job against any strikers in this league. I know Brighton have sold all of their allocation and with us celebrating 20 years back at the valley I expect a lively atmosphere! I'm gonna go for a 2-0 win and a continued march up the league table. Apologies for the Brighton badge it was the only one I could find that meets the KB and size requirements!​

You guys are on a good run at the moment and long may that continue.
How is Dan Seaborne playing for you and has he made a big difference to your defence as I believe the 3 or 4 games he has played you have kept clean sheets.
This is meant to be his last loan game this weekend but I believe he has asked if that can be extended as he is enjoying his time with you guys.
 
He has been what I would call 'solid'. Perhaps not in his favorite position, its probably fair to say we haven't even seen the best of him. He has definitely come in and made a difference- really hope he stays another month until our left back is able to return from injury <ok>

As for the Brighton game- I can see goals. We know our defence is more vulnerable when teams like to keep it on the deck (notts county last year and curles comments come to mind), but as long as we resist temptation to play the long ball I equally think their centre back partnership have a similar problem. So for this game we need Haynes or BWP back in the side.

I'd also recall frimpong to add some steel as they have Hammond in the middle and we will need someone to go toe to toe with him to stop ourselves being over run. Stephens to partner him and JJ back on the left.

I'm going for over 4.5 goals and a 3-2 victory for us. Shame ill miss it as an taking a very impromptu trip to Amsterdam. Sight seeing.

Belvedere's team makes perfect sense, subject to two issues.

(1) Is Haynes fit to start? If not would we revert to 4-5-1, in which case Hulse might be a better bet than Kermorgant.

(2) Jackson has improved by playing in the middle and is rightly reluctant to play on the flanks, where the ability to break into at least a slow trot is normally a requirement. So, especially if we play 4-5-1, would this be a good opportunity to try Harriot at LM instead of Kerkar, and leave Jackson in the middle? Brighton are a footballing team and won't kick the youngster off the park. I am not one of the Kerkar haters, I think he gets a lot of unfair criticism. But if we have the money to buy anyone in January that is the one position where we could easily improve by slotting in a new face without upsetting the balance of the side. But first let's give Harriott a chance to show if he can save us the money.
 
It won't happen I know but I'd play Haynes and BWP. Haynes is our best forward when fit (which I assume he is) and against Millwall we actually started to pose Millwall a few problems for the first time when BWP came on. This might make us a bit vulnerable in the air at set pieces but I'd risk it. I agree with Eddie about Jackson and also about Harriott. I wonder if Wilson is fit?If so he'll have to come back in, which in my book would leave Pritchard and Stephens on the bench.

Could be a clue on the OS which states "Danny Haynes is also getting fitter by the day" or, in plain English, "he's not fit". If so, I wouldn't risk him. Hamstrings are not like recovering from other injuries where the player can be pulled off if it starts to hurt or stiffen up. If his hamstring is still not right it could suddenly go without warning and he could be out for three months.

Let's face it. The only reason players like Haynes, Jackson, Fuller and BWP are with us is they are made of glass. If they weren't they would be playing with bigger clubs for more money. With BWP the gamble has paid off. (He must be made of toughened glass). If his career ended tomorrow we will have had our moneysworth out of him. You could probably make a similar case for Jackson.

With Haynes and Fuller the jury is out and needs to stay out for a few months. If they can play 14 matches out of 20, and play well in 10 out of that 14, then they will prove good signings, but they haven't achieved that yet.

On another note, I see Jonsson has left us at the end of his 28 days. So long, Icelander, and thanks for all the fish.

I hope we can keep Seaborne for another month, but in Southampton's position you would think they would want him back. Still, the massive club sold Beevers to Millwall so you never know.

I hope we keep Seaborne as well, and you're right Super, he's 'solid' - unobtrusive, unflashy and mightily effective. I can't remember a single thing about his performance the first time I saw him at Bristol City, except that there was absolutely no threat down that side of the field.

Eddie, if I were in Southampton's shoes, I'd have him back like a shot.

As far as the game is concerned, a difficult one to call. I know Austin's the one with all the goals this season, but I think we're going to get a real good look at arguably the best and probably quickest striker in this division tomorrow. If the back four can hold...

...2-1 to us.

I'm down for this one, so I hope I don't kybosh the whole thing.
 
When ever we play Brighton 2 games spring to mind both away at the goldstone ground I was at both the 7 0 thrashing we received in the early 80's and the 5 3 victory their à couple of seasons later .
I used to like trips to the goldstone in the 5 3 victory I think curbs was playing for the seagulls and Flanagan chipped in with a couple for us.
Memories eh it's what footballs all about and today we celebrate going home what a day that was.

The Goldstone was a terrific old ground. I have many fond memories of the place.

When I was twelve years old, I was sent to a boarding school in Eastbourne for two years. The reason for this: I was a right little c**t. But my dorm master used to take us to the football on a regular basis. Barry Lloyd was Brighton's manager back then, and they had Garry Nelson and Steve Gatting playing for them. And a forty year old Liam Brady - he was still the best player on the pitch. Jimmy Case weren't bad, either.

Nothing beats The Valley, though. COYR!
 
Although I said 2-1 on another thread, my dartboard prediction system said we controlled the game quite comfortably and ended up winning 2-0

I can't argue with the darts! ............ they're rather pointy!
