This is the point of a transfer committee and dof model though.
The he club has a pholosphy and a general style of football they want to play... That means the men in charge can scout and find players that suit that model.
It it should mean that as long as you then hire a manager who shared the same idea for the type of football they want to play, you don't need to change half your squad every time a new manager comes in and they don't all have to adapt to a new way of playing.
Swansea is the perfect example. They established a method under soasa. When he moved on they got Martinez in who carried on and tweaked slightly, Rodgers came in did the same then laudrup and now monk. Not identical but similar styles of football with idea around possession and pressing.
Rodgers had that philosophy but it didn't seem to work very well firsy year (quite a ha he from the type of football unde kenny) and then he changed it (by luck or not) and got great results.
Probelm lam is we then lost main component. I think we tried to replicate with Sanchez as like for like but ended up completely changing how we played with Gerrard dropping deep etc. then this year, same thing we've completely changed how we play now with a target man, something we haven't had before.
As Tobes rightly says, you look at us and I don't think we can define a style of football now. Everyone talks about Rodgers possession but I think look at our stats and we don't dominate the ball. We're not defensive and solid like mourinho and not free flowing like city. We don't counter very well these days either. It's hard to see exactly the type of football Rogers wants us to Play.
Now its its still early days for this season, but Rodgers needs to say this is how I want to play this year, next year and year after and stick to finding players that will play like that.
If we go down dof style then that changes and they set the tone and the manager follows though, but Rodgers won't be that manager because he is far too stubborn.
Rodgers can do what he likes as he won't get sacked any time soon, that's clear after what happened in the summer. The bloke should have been sacked the moment last season finished, but sadly he will be around for a long time now and we will continue to stumble over the line competing with Tottenham for 5th, its what we are now.
I heard you sadly, we wont really know until a better option management wise becomes available, the 2 most would probably like will cost a lot more than what Brendan gets, will the owners accept that?
Also how do we know talks haven't happened on the qt but no progress sadly
It isn't just about getting rid of players and I disagree that BR has thrown away half the team from last season. A new manager would want his style/philosophy introduced for a start, meaning the players would have to get used to another new 'system'. Gerrard and Sterling may both have stayed with a new manager coming in, who knows. BR got rid of players who never featured anyway Borini, Coates, Aspas - and yes he's spent a lot in adding more new players just like a new manager would do but his spend has been to add to implementing his philosophy on the team, a replacement at this time could see a complete overhaul so there's more money needed and whereas Rodgers should be 'completing his jigsaw' - new management would see a new box being opened.

Thats why you have a dof dictate style along with those high up in the club and they buy players to suit that style and the manager can get on with coaching. Just means you have to find a manager that suits that style of play you want and they should in theory be able to fit the players into the team well
In an ideal world this system would work well as each successive manager would be fitting into the club's way of doing things rather than the other way round. Can't see it happening though.

Why? Other clubs do it... Bar a are prime example that they often promote from within as staff are already used to working that way.
Swansea are another example.

A new manager worth his salt will definitely want to impose his style and philosophy on the team. A lot of the players will probably be sidelined and new players brought in to carry out the system.
What is really mind boggling is that we have a £250m squad and that we are the 4th most expensive team in the premiership. Yet we hardly play as a top 4 team. There can only be these possible explanations:
1. The players we bought were overpriced
2.The wrong players were bought
3. The players are not being used to their potential.
All of those implicate Rodgers - I know he will blame his coaches but he can't really deflect responsibility. If he doesn't get top 4 he has to go.
Barcelona have used it since time immemorial though, it's truly entrenched and it's also a very continental way of doing things which doesn't always translate into English football. We had a go at it with Comolli didn't we. Like you I would love a DoF and a proper club system that ensured continuity in doing things but I can't see any established managers going for it - BR certainly wouldn't
I'm going to have to stop you right there. Half the FIRST team (let alone the squad) has changed. You have a new lb in Gomez, a new rb in Clyne, a new CM in Milner and a new striker in Benteke. Firmino will also probably get first team games. Thats 5 out of the 11. Thats not to include players who werent playing last year and playing this year regularly. Ibe, Lovren and even Can who is playing in a different position (his natural one).
Then you say get used to a new system. Last season you start 4-3-3 then went to a 3-4-3 which began as a pressing side but then became a more defensive side when teams worked out to hit you down the wings. This season you've started the season 4-3-3 again with what i'd say a mixed philosophy of some passing, a lot of long balls to benteke (sterling was your "target man" last season) and generally solid defending. If that is not a new system from last year i dont know what is.
I might be wrong about Rodgers but i'm willing to bet he won't bring the glory days back to Pool. Heres hoping you keep him so we can go and steal Klopp when Jose legs it
He has said numerous times, even after he left, that he wanted Robbie Keane though? I don't think the same could be said for Rodgers with Balotelli & a few others.
That would be only if we were making straight swaps, and not improving on players that are still here.
I was answering Bobby's comment that Rodgers has sold off half the first team - he clearly hasn't. He's changed it hugely but not sold them all wholesale.
He never said he'd sold off half the first team, he said chucked them - and he has.
Gerrard, Sterling and Johnson have gone.
Moreno has been replaced with a right footed 18 yr old CB and Benteke is now first choice striker. That's half your outfield players.
I'm just of the opinion that a new manager coming in would make as many changes as what Rodgers has done with the squad/first team.
Yes only 2 first team players have left (debateable as Glen Johnson was a first teamer) but my point is, that you mentioned getting a new manager is in effect starting again which i believe Rodgers has already done.
Gerrard and Johnson were goner's anyway,and Raheem wanted out aswell. Not a lot BR could do about that
