No it isn't, for a start anybody arriving by sea would be ineligible to claim asylum in the UK if it were.I thought the rule that refugees must claim asylum in the first country they reach was already in place, Draig. By not claiming refuge in the first country they land in they cease to be refugees and become immigrants, as you’ve already said. But no European country will enforce the rule because they just want shot of them so they settle a few old scores by helping them to UK.
Under the UN's refugee status rules there has never been any obligation for an asylum seeker to ask for asylum in the first safe country they enter.
