Thats the problem with the HCC small borders! I don't know the ins & outs of council workings but if East Riding people use the cities facilities then they should contribute to the council budget! Or is that too simple?

What if people from the West Riding or other areas use them?

What happens if Hull people use East Riding's facilities?

What on earth are you talking about? Have a word with yourself.

Like you I am not familiar with the inner workings for local government, but East Riding'er's using HCC facilities shouldn't cost HCC more, as the facilities are already there. However this is about income and it is more to do with rateable values I guess, East Riding will have houses of a higher rateable value than those in Hull.

That encapsulates the insular, parochial, small town attitude which has bedevilled Hull for too long.

I know what you're all saying! But Brady said the new system of HCC keeping rates will affect us because we don't generate enough business rates! With us having small borders! That's the main reason he wants to extend to hessle, cott etc! Just thought I'd throw that one into the mix! And it doesn't matter what counter argument you have Mrs snooty from cott uses HCC facilities as much as anyone.

Yep! But Brady was more concerned with business rates!

Apart from the things he said connected with Hull City, which as said above certainly was encouraging, I thought it was interesting that funding for HCC was 30% of the budget from council tax, whereas East Riding was 70% of their funding was from council tax. Therefore HCC get 70% of their revenue from Government funding, which makes them more vulnerable to government cuts.
That 70% disappears in 2020.

What facilities? Sewers and binmen are location specific, perhaps you could detail some examples that are not pay-on-use?

Some quotes re the stadium...

On talks with the potential new owners - "There's been tenative enquiries but it is of a confidential nature".

"I think it's ideal for hotels, restaurants etc.We want to see investment in that area"

Burnsy "would you sell stadium?"

Brady "the public have the right to finally decide on the stadium".

They'd better start looking for somewhere to put Hull Fair ASAP!

Point 1 - I totally agree. The electorate vote on people to make big decisions, that's precisely why we have elections. A referendum is a cowardly way out.

Point 2 - there wasnt a single house demolished soon after that had the refurbishments from the KC money. FACT. There was one single flat above a shop that had the improvements and was demolished, and that was cos the shop was demolished. At the time everyone in Hull seemed to think within a year of the refurbs loads of houses had been knocked down, it really is amazing the way these made up fantasies become FACT in some people's eyes. That's not a criticism of you btw, that story really is common perception in Hull, but it doesnt mean its true..
Wasn't the 'Endeavor' school built out of the proceeds as well as the KC? Corner of Fountain Road/Beverley Road - now demolished, I think?

And Bettney and Wayne Chav from Hull use the facilities of the East Riding on their days out.

The Mrs Snooty remark again demonstrates the attitude I referred to previously which holds Hull back.

I heard Mrs snooty from cott on the radio! Trust me she's out there! Because I said they should pay towards the upkeep of the city doesn't mean they have to pay more! If HCC had income from the outer villages we could all pay less! Hull will always be small if they stay small! So your remark about small mindedness couldn't be further from the truth! And is bettney actually a name? I'm off into willerby soon to use up their street lights & cctv :emoticon-0148-yes:

Do you not think that would mean those remainig in the East Riding would have to pay more? Didn't they hold a referendum?

They did & said no ( I wonder why? ) Surely if everyone paid into the same pot we'd all be better off & hopefully pay less? And we'd have an even better city with no closures to facilities?
