Personal I think he should be given time. Let him keep the belts take as long as he needs to get himself healthy and then let him make a decision. He's earned that much at the very least. There's no reason why all the 'contenders' can't keep boxing in the interim and wait for Fury to come back. When the Klitschkos were champions they weren't exactly the most active fighters and it was never suggested they should be stripped.

By the looks of the video, Tyson seems to be a very ill man. That he hasn't been able to shoulder the negative outpouring says heaps. The world is full of noted sports folk who are hissed and derided, but I'd suggest most have the capacity to still get the job done, some even thrive on it. Tyson struggles. I really feel for the man and hope he can find a solution that will give him a chance to live a life in some sort of peace. Some people never do, and spend their lives in perpetual pain. I'd love to see him return to the ring, but if he's finished, then at least I hope he finds a way to see that the trolls are in the minority. There are many more decent people in this world than arse holes.

Will be a shame if he doesn't fight again. He might retire an undefeated world champion but many people will write the Klitschko victory off as an anomaly if he doesn't defend the victory. He might just be seen as another Buster Douglas or Hasim Rahman in the history books.

I think that's a bit unfair mate, Rahman basically won with a lucky punch and Douglas beat Tyson who was a bit of an enigma, grossly overrated and lost plenty more fights afterwards. Fury didn't win with a fluke punch, he won a unanimous decision over a 10 year reigning champion in his back yard. He's also unbeaten, neither of those pair were.

You've made it abundantly clear you really don't like him as a person, or even respect him as one (or maybe that was that Mohammed Ali, Frampton or Khan, I can't remember but I know you don't like them either!) and you seem to be letting this dislike cloud your opinion on him. I don't think anyone's ever said he's a 'great' boxer, or a hall of famer or that he'll even be talked about in the same breath as the Lewis' or Holyfields of recent times but for god sake he was good enough to do what he did when no one else could. And in the sport where so many talk themselves up as he being future champions etc, against all the odds, he went out and backed up his talk when we were all thinking he's just another guy talking the brown. But for years he said it, and he actually went out and did what he said he'd do, and for that alone I take my hat off to him.

Totally agree mate. Too many ****houses hiding behind their keyboards, who 100% wouldn't have the balls to say anything to the man's face either. I've no respect for those sort of pricks but seems we're into an epidemic stage of them in the world today.

How long do you wait though smokey? Its been nearly a year already. Boxers dont have long at the top. Unfair for the titles to be inactive and them not have a chance to be the champion.

Quite right, I'm not disputing he did the job but it was a massive upset so unless he backs it up we'll never know if it was a one off it's as simple as that and that's all I'm saying. And my dislike is definitely not clouding my judgement. You tell me what Tyson Fury has done before or after that fight that deserves my respect? He's racist, sexist, homophobic. Other than winning the fight which I've said numerous times I give him credit for as a fighter he's done nothing to earn respect as a person. As for Muhammed Ali, I'm a big fan of his in the ring, he truly was one of the greats. I've merely commented in the past that his character out of the ring was lacking some class at times.

If we all liked and disliked the same boxers it'd be a pretty boring sport to debate. You've expressed your dislike for plenty of boxers on here that I happen to like so sorry that it seems to bother you with me expressing the same for people like Khan and Frampton

This is a ticklish one isn't it? What if he can't fight for another six months to a year? I'd love to see him keep the belts, but I think if he's allowed to hang onto them, it won't be for long. As much as I hate to say it, I think they have to be taken pretty soon. I think he'll be lucky to get a three month reprieve. And in saying all that, I'm a huge fan.

I know the titles need defending but given that it's mental health issues he's dealing with I think he needs to be cut a bit of slack and left to be treated. If he doesn't seem to making any progress in a few months then review the situation then. From the sounds of it stripping him of his belts isn't exactly going to help his recovery

Smoke, we will at times end up on the opposite side of the fence mate, but my respect for your opinions are genuine. Like you, I judge a fighter on what he does in the ring. Tyson Fury possesses some horrid thoughts which repulse me, but all I really care about when it comes to the man, is his suffering and his boxing. There will always be certain people in boxing that I like, that others don't, and vice versa. It's what makes the world go around. As far as Frampton is concerned, I'm more than happy to put up my hand and admit to being wrong about his abilities. He's a damned better fighter than I first thought. I think it's fair to say that he's now reached a point where he has claims on being the best fighter in the UK.

Well he'll definitely get a 3month reprieve (starting from the October fight date), there's no doubt about. That'll take us into the second half of January next year, so if no fight is announced by early new year at the very, very latest I'd say he'll have to be stripped. I'm intentionally being lenient in my time frame, realistically he'd want to be announcing well before Christmas that he, at least, intends to defend again, if he does this I'd say a fight date late January/early February could be done.

It goes without saying this all depends on how serious his illness is, I personally haven't a clue and I haven't seen the press release Team Fury were to issue on Tuesday if anyone else has???

Couldn't agree more on Frampton mate, I dislike him as a person and thought he was overrated as a fighter but he more than proved me wrong, he was fantastic against Santa Cruz and can't wait for the rematch. I'm definetly a convert to the Frampton camp. Frampton and De Gale top of the pile of UK uk fighters.

With Fury, Cyc, I've never said it was a fluke what he did to Klitschko, I'm just implying that if he doesn't fight on it might just go down in history as a one off, just another upset and that takes away from what he actually achieved. I personally think Klitschko would win a rematch but believe me if Fury won again I'd be the first person to give him his dues. Strange thing is a used to be a big fan of Fury's, but the more and more I watched him I just went off him he just seemed to stumble through his fights showing very little skill and it just wasn't my cup of tea.

Onya Beefy. <ok>

Fair enough Smoke. :) You want to read a comment that might very well make you laugh? You have my permission to take the piss mate, but I seriously believe Hughie Fury will eventually take a heavyweight world title . :)

I'm going to shock you now Cyc. I agree! Big fan of Hughie good boxer, very disciplined. Very unfortunate about his health issues otherwise he'd definetly be further on with his progress by now. I was looking forward to his next fight on the undercard of Fury/Klitschko against Andy Ruiz, could have been very interesting. There's talk he might fight Shannon Briggs next in December if Briggs isn't fighting David Haye

I've not seen the press release just the interview Peter Fury gave, you'll like his comments about Eddie Hearn mate

I would have diagnosed Fury with bipolar depression several year ago and I've never met the man, just seen his antics and he displays all the traits of a person suffering from that mental disorder. It is quite complex but treatable once they finalise what meds work right and you can go on to lead a somewhat normal life. Haven't read through the whole thread so apologies if someone has stated this already <ok>

FRIDAY'S FIGHT.

In January of 1976, Big George Foreman climbed back into the ring for the first time since his destruction at the hands of Ali in Kinshasa. That loss, 15 months ago, had taken a heavy emotional toll on the former champ, to such an extent, that he entered the bout in pretty poor condition. Despite that, he started a fives on chance against the big punching Ron Lyle. Ron had learned his trade in prison and upon turning pro had crossed swords with the likes of Ali, Jerry Quarry, Ernie Shavers, Oscar Bonavena, Jimmy Young, Buster Mathis and Jimmy Ellis. He was a season pro with hard hands who entered the bout with serious intent. The face off in the centre of the ring before the first bell showed that Ron Lyle was there on business, he didn't give a fig about the betting or the expectations of others. The fight was hardly a text book encounter. It didn't take long before defence went out the window, to be replaced with brutal power. This bout was for the vacant NABF Heavyweight Title.

That was brutal. But very surprised at Foreman's lack of power (relative to when he made Frazier look like a rag doll). So many powder puff punches when he had Lyle in trouble earlier.
