Spinks refused to fight Tucker so Tucker had to fight and beat Douglas for a chance to fight Tyson. Even though Tucker had a broken right hand.he fought Tyson and took him 12 rounds..
 
Tyson was certainly up with the very best when he had Rooney in his corner. Once Rooney went and his mates Horne, Holloway were in the corner and the partying started he went down hill. The book "Undisputed truth" by Tyson gives you a real insight into his training and life in between fights, a brilliant read it is. He basically partied between every fight, took a load of drugs and then when his cash was running down he phoned Don King to get him a fight. Against Buster Douglas his corner men Horne and Holloway, did not even have any ice in or a eye swell with them. They has to fill a condom with cold water half way through the fight to try and stop some eye swelling.
Lewis whilst a top champ would not of beat Tyson of 20 years old, too quick, too much movement.
Lewis actually tweeted recently in conversation with someone on there about Tyson and admitted he only beat a well finished Tyson and in there earlier days it would not of been like that, which was very honest of him.

When he fought the top boys like Holyfield and Lewis, we all seen what happened.

When asked whether the result against Tyson would have been the same had it been years earlier, Lewis says 'Absolutely.... Tyson was a 1 dimensional fighter...when you boxed him he couldn't box'.
 
I think one of the big issues and possibly doubts over Tyson is that he wasn't at the top for very long. He had a very short, in boxing terms, career at the top of his game. But at his peak there aren't many heavyweights through history, maybe only a handful, who could have mixed it with him let alone survived. As for Lennox Lewis, was just in the right place at the right time for his career. Similar to the Klitchsko's and people like Larry Holmes
 
Tyson v Marciano would have been interesting. 2 similar fighters. I know who my money would have been on, by ko.

Do you really expect Lewis to say anything else? What's he going to say "actually you know what, that fight pretty much defined my career, but you're right I was lucky that I was fighting a washed up fighter, there's no way I'd have got to Tyson at his best"

Its all hypothetical anyway, one of those arguments that'll go round and round. The facts of matter are very simple. Lewis beat Tyson like he was a baby. Lewis was 36 and Tyson was 35. Lewis beat every man he fought, 2 of them in rematches. His record was exemplary.
 
Yes Lewis did say that in conversation with someone on twitter. Where was Lewis and Holyfield when Tyson was destroying everyone if they were the same age roughly? They just peaked at very different times.
Lewis may of beaten Tyson but it was only the name and not the real Tyson as we all know. Lewis got KO'd by a guy who was a Tyson sparring partner, Lewis struggled with Bruno, got a lucky decision over Mercer, Briggs almost had Lewis out. Rahman KOd Lewis and was a very average fighter and they were 1-1 in fights. The fact is you can pick holes in any sportsman if you wish. Ali got lucky against Cooper, Ali got decisions because of his name at times e.g.Norton.

I can't believe how much love there is for Lewis on here yet so much derision towards Klitschko's. They've all benefitted from a poor(ish) era of boxing where they managed to get on top and become champions. Only difference is the Klitschko's stayed there longer and have been more consistent. Don't get me wrong I was a fan of Lewis, wanted him to beat Tyson, was chuffed to bits he unified the division, was happy he (fortunately) came away the winner against Vitali and I was glad he made the right choice to retire and not carry on too long. But he isn't one of he all time greats definitely not in the top 10.

And he would not have beat Tyson in his prime.
 
Just watched the first Bruno Tyson fight. Can't believe how well Bruno fought in that one, given his glass chin. And well and truly rocked Tyson in the first round. Well done Frank for having a go.

You said Lewis size and power, they were similar in size and Tucker probably better KO power than Lewis hence a better KO record.
 
I don't think Bruno had a glass chin at all. The massive left hook that he too from Lewis would have KO'd most fighters and put them on the canvas. Took very heavy punishment from Tyson in both fights and never went down .
 
Lewis and Bruno were known by the public for having "glass jaws" but neither did, you dont get a long career at the very top having no whiskers in the heavies. Bruno usually got stopped by 4-5 punches like v Lewis and Tyson, Lewis got KOd by hayemakers that would of took anyone out.

The fact Lewis beat him to a pulp makes your opinion highly questionable too I might add!

Mike Tyson. Beaten anytime he faced a decent opponent who didnt crap himself beforehand! Beaten on numerous occassions by stellars like Danny Williams and Buster Douglas. But lets not let facts get in the way of Mike Tyson 'the greatest myth in boxing' :)

Leon Spinks and Berbick beat Ali, Rahman and McCall beat Lewis, Morrison beat Foreman, a few mugs beat Holyfield. So none of them must of been great after all.
