Exactly. McGregor has no punching power at this level. He did not even have what you call a punchers chance.

An heroic effort and he is the only fighter to come out of that with any credit.

I just watched the replay on the net. Mayweathers movement was non existent and I cant see how you can give him any of the 1st 3 rounds as his punch output was next to zero. However it was also clear that Conor just didnt have any power behind those punches. Looked like arm punches to me. Mayweather knew he didnt have the power to hurt him and simply walked him down.

Rounds 9 and 10 I found hard to watch. I thought the stoppage was late if anything. Horrible watching Mayweather stalking forward against an outgunned opponent. Like to see him try that against someone who could hit him back with a power punch - but of course he wouldnt would he.

Im glad it didnt continue. Conor didnt deserve to be knocked out.

McGregor's power was always overrated. Its absolutely fine ko-ing guys who can barely stand up and who place their chins on his gloves. But even up against an over the hill Mayweather, his power punches were very ineffective.

So was the punching power of the other 49 guys who couldn't knock him down also overrated?

McGregor punches very hard, he just doesn't punch hard after sparring for half an hour.

Most of his UFC fights are over in a couple of minutes, so he's punching his opponents full of energy.

He landed a big uppercut in round 1. It had no effect whatsoever.

Saying that I was really suprised with the skill he showed to land the shot.

No doubt they are two completely separate sports with completely different types of fitness.

This was always a mismatch and one I'd no interest in at all, was amazed so many people were really taken in by it. When the hype was all stripped away it was simply a fight between someone making his pro boxing debut against one of boxing's GOAT. The outcome was never in doubt, unless of course it was to be fixed. I suppose credit where it's due, plenty were saying that McGregor wouldn't land a glove on him etc but he lasted ten rounds in there, won rounds and landed a better percentage than most of Floyds opponents including none other than Canelo who is of course involved in the real fight of the year himself! That sums up the scale of the challenge McGregor faced on debut, and I'd say he'll not be boxing again that's for sure. (Mind you I'm sure I'm not the first to think him and Malignaggi would probably sell a few PPVs). Anyway I'm glad it's over, both had a nice pay day and no one was hurt in the 'circus show'.

It definitely is on the cards, I think everyone in the fight game will want a fight with McGregor, as he's the biggest draw in MMA and boxing for that matter. No other fighter now Mayweather is retired can generate the income McGregor can. So his next fight could be a case of who makes the most sense financially.

I think Nurmagomedov would be a very tough opponent. I'd love to see him go back down in weight though and take on Max Holloway. I think that would be a great fight too.

I still don't think McGregors boxing career is over, yeah he was well beaten last night in the end, but if the money is on the table I could see him taking another boxing match. I could definitely see him against Malinaggi or someone like that.

Shergs, he did win the rounds, but I would say that based on the way the fight developed, Floyd was quite happy to let him win those rounds. Especially given his admission later that he was letting McGregor punch himself out before taking him apart.

It was exactly as expected- a one-sided no contest. McGregor didn't even carry the KO power at any stage, that's what shocked me.

No he was losing after 3 rounds.

I've only seen the fight once but I couldn't have given Mayweather a 10 9 in either of the 3. I'd have given 2 even and Conor the 1st just for the uppercut.

2 of the judges favoured Mayweather though and Conor didn't outbox him.

Mayweather knew from the start that Conor didn't have the power to hurt him and went away from his usual defensive tactics. Thankfully the ref stepped in.

Comparing the punch landing percentage with Canelo - Firstly Mayweather wasn't 40 and would have trained seriously. He also used his superb defensive skills.

Secondly Canelo has serious punching power and Mayweather had no intention of getting hit. It was obvious last night Mayweather knew Conor couldn't hurt him and was not bothered about just standing there and if necessary get hit. If Conor landed his biggest shot Mayweather wouldn't have been troubled.

Not shown any interest in this Mayweather fight but, having watched a few of McGreggor's fights, his punches are far too telegraphed and I can see Mayweather just dancing around trying to make McGreggor look stupid. His fights remind me of a schoolboy bully and I suspect he will be schooled

The more I see of McGregor the less impressed I am.
The only times I've seen him knock anyone down with one punch is when they have run at him inviting it. Even then he has to jump on them at hit them while they are down or knee them etc. His punches are so telegraphed, even Haye could have got out of the way with his bad leg. McGregor will get schooled and it could be embarrassing. If he wins it will be a fix to get another big payday. My son reckons McGeggor will be all over Mayweather and eventually nail him. To be honest I don't really care and I wouldn't watch it if it were free.

Its all over and done with now. McGregor did better than a lot of people expected. He looked a lot less amateurish than i'd expected. His much talked about punching power was none existent though. Mayweather looked a shadow of his former self but was never troubled or even uncomfortable. He let McGregor do his thing for a few rounds then once he knew what McGregor was all about then he took him apart. The stoppage was correct, McGregor was taking far too many shots and even if he wasn't being hurt and was just fatigued, it looked like he was in trouble and wasn't protecting himself so the ref did his job and protected the fighter. I'm a big fan of both boxing and MMA, have watched both for years and even with all the negativity surrounding this fight, the big positive to come out of it, mostly thanks to McGregor is that both sports will have reached a wider audience and thats got to be a good thing if more people are now watching or interested in either or both sports.

To compare the sports and say MMA is better than boxing is quite frankly ridiculous. They are very very different sports. Mayweather likely wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes inside the Octagon, he might not even have lasted as long as Aldo but because McGregor lasted 30 in a ring that makes MMA a stronger sport. Thats absurd. Thats like Andy Murray and Rory McIlroy playing each other at their respective sports and saying one is better than the other because they both use balls!

Dead at just 26. The reigning Women's WBF Featherweight Champion, Angelique Duchemin of France, has succumbed to a heart attack while training in her gym. The young lady won her title last May when she outpointed her compatriot Ericka Rousseau over 10 rounds.

Last Monday Angelique suffered discomfort at her club in Thuir and underwent cardiac massage before being transported to hospital in Perpignan. Ms Duchemin passed away on Tuesday from a pulmonary embolism. Her dad passed away from a heart attack in 2014.

R.I.P. WBF Featherweight Champion Angelique Duchemin.

After being dropped for the first time in his young career, Scotland's Lee McGregor cruised through the first round of the AIBA World Championships in Germany. Sadly the amateur star ran into a hot prospect in the USA's Duke Ragan in the second round. The American had just come off a brilliant performance in his first match where he had a great win over the Olympic and World Youth Champion Javier Diaz.

Lee McGregor acquitted himself quite well and looks a good thing to make the trip to the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games next April. The Scottish team is to be announced in November.

Just 11 days after beating Julius Indongo for all the Super Lightweight Titles, Terence Crawford has had to relinquished his IBF belt. Yesterday, Bud's team wrote to the IBF informing them of their decision, as they struggled with which path their champ should now travel. They were to meet with the Sergey Lipinets team today to chat about the IBF mandatory purse bid. Now that the title is vacant, Lipinets will do battle with the next available ranked fighter. Sergey will probably be over the moon about it all.
