No mate genuine had been confirmed for 10th September Brooks moving up 2 weights to fight GGG for his middleweight titles. Think I'm gonna go, there won't be many chances to see Golovkin over in UK
Absolutely huge- getting GGG to the UK shows how marketable we are now and hats off to Eddie (I know some think he's a smug sod!) for jumping in and showing Eubank where the pen is. It's actually no lose for Brook because he enhances his name, he becomes marketable in the USA, and still has the Khan fight no matter what. Gut feeling says GGG too big for him and that Brook steps back down afterwards whilst GGG has a stadium bout with Eubank (maybe BJS in between) because he can make a lot of money here.
Awesome news, agree with smokey, the chance to see GGG in the UK is too good to miss. Shame I don't know anyone with matchroom VIP
I actually had ringside tickets lined up for what was supposed to be Brooks next fight in Sheffield against Jesse Vargas but not sure I'll be able to score them for this one. I'm happy to buy me ticket and just enjoy the show.
There's no doubt Brook has landed the golden goose ticket with this due to the unwillingness of the Eubank camp to agree terms. But total credit to him, to take the fight two weight classes up is so brave and furthermore against possibly the best boxer on the planet. In all honesty I don't expect he'll see a round after the third or fourth but good luck to him.
You can't see him getting past the 4th round? I'll take them odds! I think you might be surprised, yeah it's a big ask stepping up but Golovkin hasn't exactly been knocking out world class fighters. It's a very interesting fight and as much as I like Brook I think Golovkin will likely win but I don't think it would be a massive upset if Brook shows his potential and gets the win
Yeah I think Brooks a bit overhyped myself smokey though the same is possibly true of GGG. The big difference is he's just bigger and stronger. Brooks never been hit by as big a puncher, I'd be certain of that!
Can't argue with any of that mate. Just my gut feeling about Brook. I'm not kidding myself and thinking he's got the beating of GGG just thinking he might surprise a few
Whilst I've got you Beefy I know you're a big fan of Fury's what do you make of the doping claims? I don't like the guy as a person or a boxer I've made no secret of that but I don't for one second think he's doped up
Holy ****. And people were staying he was playing his reign soft. Well done Kell. I hope he handles himself really well.
I just can't quite see Kell as a middleweight in my mind at the moment but until we get a face off at a promo il hold judgment. Fascinating nonetheless and interesting to see how Brooks skills and speed compare against the p4p King.
This Golovkin - Brook is a massive fight that will hopefully see some serious cash shovelled his way. The task before him is huge. Height and reach wise, there isn't too much in it, with Golovkin having 4 cm in the former and 3 cm in latter. His problems will come in the weights. If the fight is at the full 160 lbs, Brook will be nearly a stone away from his last fight. Brook will build towards the 160, but will not be able to re-hydrate to the same extent as GGG. I hope the Eddie can get something like a no more that 10 pound limit on the excess weight after the weigh in. The contract details will be interesting.
Fair play to Kell. This certainly isnt a massive mismatch. Kell has got some serious skill and ability. All he has to try and do is not trade and hit n move. Easier said than done as nobody cuts the ring down as good as GGG. But hats off to Kell, hes a champion. He cant win ,but he will surprise everyone in this fight.
First I've heard of it smokey and one look at Fury tells me he looks the least juiced up athlete in history, or if he was taking something I'd be looking my money back Has to be 200% bollocks that! Speaking of the man did you come across his social media videos of him partying in France with the Engerland fans! The man's a true legend
In the late thirties, the mighty Joe Louis instigated what he called the Bum of the Month Club. Ali sometimes used the term in a tongue in the cheek manner, and now the the Bum of the Month Club is being bandied about again in the media. This time though, it's being tied to Sergey Kovalev and Deontay Wilder. Today in Ekaterinburg, where ever the **** that is, the Krusher, IBF, WBA & WBO Light Heavyweight Champion, Sergey Kovalev climbs into the ring to smash his Bum of the Month, former IBO Super Middleweight Champion Isaac Chilemba of South Africa. Chilemba has lost two of his last six fights and goes into the bout a 28-1 shot. Kovalev is 1-40. One of those fights he lost was to Tony Bellew. Chilemba has never been stopped. He will be tonight. A lot of people are taking the piss when comes to the fight record of Deontay Wilder. Bum of the Month Club is being mentioned here too. Wilder knockers are not missing the opportunity to stick in the knife when it comes to opinions on why he pulled out of the Povetkin fight, even though the Russian had not been rubbed out. Even the word coward has been used. I don't know what the story is all about, maybe it's some king of hype thing ... buggered if I know. Whatever the tale, Wilder is amassing a resume littered with bums. Bermane Stiverne is about the best he's fought, and he's not exactly stacked with talent when it comes to measuring world class heavyweights. The man does deserve some credit though, he won the vacant WBC Title when he stopped Chris Arreola in the sixth. So who do you think will be Wilder's next Bum of the Month? Yep, you guessed it, Chris Arreola. On the 17th of this month, Wilder will start a 1-16 shot, Arreola will be 15-1.
Kovalev is just having a easy warm up before Andre Ward fight and Wilder has been granted a voluntary defence after the Povetkin fight fell through but there's only so many 'easy' fights he'll get away with before having to face a real challenge. I was very disappointed the Povetkin fight didn't happen as that would have been very interesting
Transferred from "Paintings Of Interest" thread: Yes, Cyc, should not infringe on this excellent thread with this topic so apologies in this respect, but I almost knew that that thought would come up. But, you know, a lot of humans never develop a basic working skill or talent, but are tough as nails and will do anything to get their daily food, and, as such, are easily misled by unscrupulous people. Take, as a good example, boxing in the 1920s and '30s, the days of the Great Depression. A lot of the top British boxers in those dark days were of the Jewish faith from London, many of whose parents fled to the UK around 1903 to escape the Russian pogroms directed against them. These lads had nothing, from desperately poor families who could ill-afford to have their children educated, let alone feed them and put a roof over their heads. So, all many of these lads could do was fight, and that's what they did. Trying to remember a few names, Jack 'Kid' Berg, Ted 'Kid' Lewis, Harry Mizler, etc. There were a lot more. It was, however, during this period, that the Jewish people, mostly centred around Whitechapel, discovered the virtues of tailoring ("Nevermind the width, feel the quality) and bookmaking, both excellent ways of making cash money. As an afterthought, and I have mentioned this before I'm sure, I was raised as a child (from 3-months old) in the Borough district of London, pretty close-by Whitechapel. I honestly thought all Jewish people spoke with a London accent, and I was quite taken aback some years later when I heard a Jewish gentleman from Glasgow for the first time. Astonished, in fact. Here's a massive account of the Jewish boxers in the UK from 1890-1960, entitled "The Hefty Hebrew". Haven't read it myself yet, but I will. I have already noted that the guys did not come from just London, either. http://www.academia.edu/345584/The_Hefty_Hebrew_Boxing_and_British-Jewish_Identity_1890-1960
