? Britain had rationing during the 40's and 50's, lost the suez canal in the 60's, had 3 day weeks and brownouts in the 70's. It was great 150 years ago and has been dwindling since the Boer war.
150 years ago wasn't good for the working man ! It was shocking living and working conditions for a normal person ! I think the saying of making Britain great is a elite aristocracy ideal ! You've only got to read a few books and watch some discovery type programs to see ! It's the mega rich convincing the common man that it was and can be again when it never was in the 1st place that I find a bit disturbing
You're putting modern context on history, it's a stupid argument, you may as well say prehistoric Britain was 'Great' because of the tribes social structures, one went hungry all went hungry. Britain was Great 150 years ago because it was the economic and industrial centre of the world, and also controlled 1/3rd of the land mass and 'ruled the waves'.
Nah, we have always been ****. We are worthless, so i'm told. A ****ty little island full of racists apparently. Who the **** are we to kick out the mighty EU with their White hats and good intentions?
no we were great, just like the Sumerians, Minoans, Greeks, Romans, Umayyad, Holy Roman Empire, et al. They were all 'Great' at their time and place in hitory, and faded just as we have.
Was anyone not using that at the time, though? Not a lot of pacifist nations back then. Probably a good reason for that...
This is true but looking from a common man point if view the greatness was always for the benefit of the very small minority !
