CHARLIE MULGREW insists Neil Lennon is Manager of the Year — and hopes the Celtic boss ISN’T snubbed like his Hoops stars.

Lennon is furious none of his players were short-listed for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Last year’s winner Mulgrew is also stunned — and he urged the country’s gaffers NOT to make the same mistake when picking their champ.

Asked if Lennon should win Manager of the Year, Mulgrew replied: “Yes, definitely.

“He’s done really well to manage us through massive Champions League games and to then come back into league fixtures. I know what is expected and we were on a doing-to-nothing at times.

“So he has done well to keep it all together.

“I would hope that people recognise what we do, recognise what the manager does as much as we do.”

Mulgrew insists he was STUNNED by the PFA Scotland Celts snub.

He added: “I still don’t see how one Celtic player didn’t have enough votes to get into the top four. It has been noted what we have been done in the Champions League and being so clear in the league so it’s disappointing. It’s baffling to be honest.

“I am not saying there is an agenda. But surely when people are looking at their votes they have to look at who has won the league, who is in finals and who done well in Europe. And surely everyone knows “Surely you have to pick a player from that.”

Lennon vowed to boycott the awards dinner but Mulgrew insists that’s NOT been discussed by the Celtic team.

Mulgrew added: “I’ve not heard anybody say they’re not going.

“I would imagine we would have somebody there, although we’ll be playing in Dingwall that day.”

PAUL HARTLEY insists his former Celtic team-mate Neil Lennon should be Scotland’s Manager of the Year.

Alloa boss Zico reckons the Irishman’s SPL title and Champions League exploits must make him favourite for the gong.

But he believes there are several top bosses who will run Lenny close.

Hartley said: “Anybody who wins the league must be in with a shout and Neil has done that with Celtic.

“Add the Champions League achievements — beating Barcelona to reach the last 16 — and it has been a great season for him.

“Terry Butcher, Derek Adams, Stuart McCall — they have all been excellent, as has Allan Johnston at Queen of the South.

“Jackie McNamara and Alan Archibald have had great seasons too — there are a lot of top contenders.

“A lot of these guys are quite young for managers and that is good for the game in this country.

“It’s becoming a young man’s game now. A lot of clubs are appointing from within.

“But you have to stay on top of it. There are so many people looking for jobs now — it’s so competitive.”

One veteran gaffer who bowed out of management this season was Craig Brown at Aberdeen.

It was the former Scotland boss who took Hartley to the 1996 European Championships inn England as a hamper boy.

Zico has a lot of time for Brown and hopes he can have a similar influence on the kids he works with nowadays. He added: “Craig has had a great career as a manager and took me to the Euros with a few other youngsters — it was a great grounding for me.

“Football has changed a lot over the last 20 or so years, but you never stop learning and improving.

“I was a young boy in 1996 and it took me a few years to get right to the top.

“I was 28 when I won my first Scotland cap and 30 when I joined Celtic.

“But the grounding you receive in the early days of your career is vital.

“There are a few young boys in my Alloa squad who are maybe getting a second chance just now — and I will do everything to make sure they take it.

“Things don’t always work out at the start of your career, but if you keep working you will get there.

“My career kicked on when I moved to Hearts and it was up to me to make the most of it.

“I have players at Alloa who can move on to a higher level if they show a lot of determination and get a break.”

And therein lies an issue. Most of us are just pretending The Gers never died or don't care one way or t'other what the fact of the matter is. My sensible head tells me Rangers - as we know it - were liquidated and i'm happy to go along on the basis that even if it did die, then it still lives in the heart of those who follow it. I'd probably be exactly the same if the roles were reversed and anyone who says different is fooling himself.

Rangers still exists as a living breathing entity whatever the background to this whole sorry mess, and I for one am long since bored of the whole saga and long for the days when we could just take the piss out of each other based on results on the park rather than financial shenanigans. These forums could be vicious at times before this soap opera exploded into life, personally I feel that too many on both sides have started to display a vindictiveness and hatred that should not arise in times of war, let alone in the times of trouble for a football club.

my money is on the ross county manager, to come in and finish that high after promotion is hard to see past.
