I prefer escapism if I've got a lot of time for reading ... like on hols.

Last year during our couple of weeks in France I downloaded books I had read back in the 1970s / early 80s - the saga of the exiles by Julian May (a bird) .. first one is The Many Coloured Land ... still fookin brilliant and sure to be made into a film one day.

Without giving too much away, it is set in the future where earth is part of a galactic hegemony where some individuals may have developed metaphysical attributes to a greater or lesser degree - but there are those that crave a simpler life - either because they are criminals or simply just disillusioned with modern life - one alternative to a life in prison, the death penalty or just carrying on, is 'exile' - stepping through a time portal located in France that will transport you to earth's Pleistocene epoch where you can live out your days ... then the fun begins. Fabulous books, would thoroughly recommend. <cheers>
have you read the "prequel" series beginning with Intervention if not you might want to look them up .

Cheers buddy ... I haven't, partly because th a Gallactic Millieu element was the least interesting aspect for me ... the whole 'exile thong was what really grabbed my imagination.

A shame she didn't get around to writing about events post The Adversay and of course she has now popped her cloggs.

I think it would make a cracking film now that CGI is so incredible and it's real GOT type material in many ways ...<cheers>

I wish you hadn't given that much away!

Sounds like an episode of Dr Who tbh. Not the good ones either. One where this bloke was the Doctor...

I did 2 holidays which really pissed her off. One was a villa in Malta, the other a cottage in Newquay. Both were obviously self-catering.

I didn't cook except for one bbq <laugh>

Tbf though I drove everywhere, planned every day's excursions etc, looked after the kids and managed pretty much everything else.

Anyone read the Magician series by Feist?
The Mistress of the Empire books bare a very strong similarity to Daenerys story In GoT but was written years earlier.

I read magician, Silverthorn & Darkness at Sethalon in order, then a few of the in random order. But, like Terry Goodkinds 'sword of truth' series, there's too many of them. He does write well though, keeps you in the story.

My Number 1 author is Wilbur Smith, pulls you in and keeps you there from page 1. River God is an epic read.

Used to read loads but not since I've been here. I like to relax with a talking book as I'm too lazy to keep turning the pages.
