Hasn't a new rule been brought in to prevent this happening again. Clubs have to play within their city/town boundaries or something? It was the Cov/Northampton debacle that spurred the change and is stopping them from doing the same now they've been booted out the Ricoh
Bolton Wanderers' home match against Ipswich Town in the Championship on Saturday will go ahead as scheduled. The region's Safety Advisory Group (SAG) had issued a ban on fans entering the University of Bolton Stadium for their next two home games. "We are pleased that the club has been able to reassure us that they are able to host the game in a safe manner," said a spokesperson for SAG. On Wednesday, Bolton were given until 8 May to settle an unpaid £1.2m tax bill. The staff have now been paid, though not the players.
If that was the aim (getting the non playing staff paid) then fair play to them Well worth the action they took
Given their league position it looks like some of their players have not played during matches also. They've just not released a statement about it!
Bolton's potential new owner: "I don't know whether we'll survive this season - if we do go down we'll be putting a large sum of money in to take them straight back up. "If they go down it's a three-year plan, if they stay up it's a two-year plan to get in the Premier League." Bassini, who took over at Vicarage Road in 2011 before selling to the Pozzo family a year later, was previously given a three-year ban from being involved in a position of authority with any English Football League club in 2013. The punishment came after he was found guilty of misconduct and dishonesty over financial dealings during his time with the Hornets. "I think the Bolton fans deserve more and they need to feel safe. I think they can feel safe with me," added Bassini, who also confirmed that he attended Bolton's win at Queens Park Rangers last Saturday. Hilarious.
BBC Sport @BBCSport Former Watford owner Laurence Bassini says he has agreed a deal to buy Bolton Wanderers subject to approval from the English Football League.
Bolton Wanderers - Club Statement Bolton Wanderers Football Club are delighted to announce that a sale and purchase agreement has been signed which will see Ken Anderson's shareholding in Burnden Leisure Limited being sold to Mr Laurence Bassini. This agreement will give Laurence Bassini full control of Burnden Leisure Limited and of course both Bolton Wanderers Football Club and Whites Hotel. The change of ownership requires approval by the English Football League before the deal can be finalised. The financial terms of the transaction will remain private and confidential between the parties. We are sure supporters will be very pleased to understand that as part of the transaction, all of the existing loans to the club will be settled in full and the associated charges removed, meaning the business will be debt free for the first time in many years. Outgoing Chairman Ken Anderson said: "I am very pleased to hand over ownership of this great club to Laurence, I wish him and all of our supporters the very best for the future." Prior to the ratification by the EFL, significant funds will be immediately be made available to the club enabling the payment of the outstanding wages to the players and coaching staff along with a number of the long term creditors. Once completion has occurred, all the long terms debts to HMRC and suppliers will be settled. Further comments including an interview with Mr Bassini will follow in due course.
Hmm, frying pan and fire spring to mind here ... I'm usually used to reading ''twice bankrupt'' preceding Mr Bassini's name.
If the Fit and Proper Person test was genuinely a test to see if someone was a fit and proper person, he'd fail it.
BREAKING: Bolton Wanderers' players have threatened to boycott tomorrow's EFL Championship game against Brentford.
Big discussion on BWFC on TS this lunchtime. Seems the new owner has been bankrupt twice and has some sort of EFL bans in place...!!! they also mentioned the FAPP test and said that an FA representative said it actually doesn't exist. All they check when a new chairman comes along is that they have assets to sustain the viability off the club - or words to that effect.
Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko BOLTON. Full details on the strike online shortly. No wages paid. Despite warnings of consequences from squad.
OK so the players didn't get paid, there's 2 games left to go so they should play for the fans. It's not like they will be struggling to pay the leccy bill. What good will it do them and their cause if they don't play.
The players have just issued a statement, they've not been paid for March and it looks like there's no money for April's wages either. And it's not just the first team that haven't been paid, it's players at all levels and the coaching staff, some of whom will be having trouble paying the leccy bill.
they've only got 2 games leverage to get paid - if they play them without being paid they might not get anything for another 3 months
Club scout not able to get to games as he's not been paid for 3 months! Some trainee's have been relying on some first team members to pay for their train fares to get to training! Background to prospective new owner sounds 'unacceptable' by any reasonable standards! I fear this is going to get worse. Without paying the players, the club has created a material breach, as such suspect a fair few will walk from their contracts and join new clubs. Maybe the other staff that have been paid can muster up a team for tomorrow?
