Used to listen to this full blast of a Saturday morning, Vinyl on a High end Techics separates system. I still love the double neck guitars and I can see my son (who was about 3 at the time) loving this song. Happy memories.

If I was to cast aside my punk rock street cred and listen to one Rush album which one should it be ?

Bear in mind I tend not to like live albums as a rule.

I would probably suggest Moving Pictures, my favourite Rush Album.

Might give it a listen, I`m a big fan of a band called Midlake who some of my chummers have suggested have somewhat prog rock leanings - I wouldnt know, my knowledge of that kind of thing probably extends as far as Rick Wakemans Camelot On Ice.

Rush are a strange one, I know some people class them as "Prog" but I never really have, they have Prog elements such as 12 minute songs, songs about legends and fables and spaceships but that's really where the comparison ends.

Moving Pictures has a nice mix, classic Rush Songs like Red Barchetta and Tom Sawyer to instrumentals like YYZ.

Let me know if you enjoy it, the musicianship is second to none btw.

will try and track it down for a listen, to be honest I think I have never really been one to appreciate or be moved by musicianship itself - I dont think Im explaining this well - Neil Young calls it " The Spook ", its why he often used to release technically inferioror sometimes downright ramshackle takes/versions of a song over one that was " cleaner " ..... because that was the one that had this unquantifiable thing he called " the spook ".

Had a wee listen to some of it, music is fine but I found the singers voice a bit strident for my taste ...., kind of always pitched too high

I meant to say that might be an issue, that's usually cited as a reason for people not liking them as Geddy Lee is not to everyone's taste but you get used to it over time.

I recorded this as it was shown using a cassette recorder and a microphone held up to my TV speaker. I had heard a lot about the Dolls but never actually heard them but I saw in the papers that they were on Whistle Test and prepared to record.

The B Side of Starman I think, Bowie at his best imho, not his best song but one that always takes me back to a simpler time, where records were a precious commodity and you had to be selective, to be fair to Bowie at that time you could just buy anything of his (The laughing Gnome apart) and hit gold.

One of the few bands where I only ever bought their singles, never got around to buying an album but this song brings back a ****load of memories.

Still sounds good and a nice Bowie segway.

Ive had this little snippet of a song in my head for a while, pretty sure it was out around the time of The Chords and is a kind of Mod/Power Pop thing - the bit in my head is a kind of breakdown in the song with mostly just drums and the band singing " prisoner number one... whoa -oh ... prisoner number one " repeatedly.

For some reason I think their name had something to do with " Dominator " , but it might have been they were a moddish band playing WEM Dominator amps, I had one and it sticks in my memory ..... as you can see Im over-thinking this <laugh>

No one else seems to remember it, its bugging me ... any ideas .... anyone.... <wah>
