We should have won by 2 or 3. BWP was only poor at hold up play because we insisted on playing high balls to him, he won between 30 & 40% of his headers but he was up against a Centre Half so what do you expect of the lad. Couldn't understand the good Doctor's last substitution? We had a corner with about 1 minute to go so why not bring on 6' 4" forward Smith rather than Evina?
Could have been worse lads we might have spend £8 million on Jordan Rhodes if we had any money! Quite encouraged by yesterday. Odd atmosphere I thought. Took a long time to get into it. Maybe just me and looking forward to Portugal holiday on Tuesday. Green was outstanding. I know I bang that drum but he showed us today what we've been missing. Kerkar too did a job but he is, to put it mildly, a touch ungainly. Wilson excellent too. Maybe shut the boo boys up now. Only struggler for me was BWP but not his fault as he's not a target man. Tried hard though. Think CP has done a Bobby Robson and landed on his best team/formation by accident. Poor crowd. We must be getting less than last season of you account for the bigger away support. Thought Blackburn were poor. Expected better. Onwards an upwards.
For me yesterday was a curates egg. BWP played well with what he was given but without Kermorgant alongside to win the long ball he was out of the game for periods being outmuscled by their CH. Kerkar was a revelation on the wing and we played and one more in the centre of midfield when Pritchard came on for Jacko. Holllands and Stephens were either not on song or not up to it I couldn't decide which. Wilson played better with Green thanhe has doen before and Solly's interplay with Kerkar in the second half was good. I would still prefer to see Solly back at right back and Evina given a chance feeding Kerkar. Not certain that the good doctor has found his best team yet but yesterday was a better approximation than we have had so far this season. The hamstring layoff htat Jacko has now earned bay be decisive in shaping the team for the season. Tuesday night is going to be a tough one with a small crowd ( I for one will be working oop north again, ) Would like to see the following starting line up: Hamer Solly Morro Cort Evina Green Stephens Pritchard Kerkar Fuller BWP
I wondered whether The Doctor wanted to give Evina a taste of first-team action in case he plays him tuesday. No criticism of Wilson, but I want Solly back at RB. There was one occasion yesterday when he covered at RB with a real piece of quality play to remind us what we're missing. I want to see him and Green operate together.
Agreed. I thought the 4-5-1 seemed to suit them, with Hollands playing as the defensive mid and Stephens able to play further up they knew exactly what their roles were and Hollands was particularly effective. Considering the injuries to key players a pleasing performance all round.
Green had one of the best games I'd seen him have in a Charlton shirt and he did one cross field pass in the first half that if it had come from a player playing for a top six premiership team would of had Hanson and co wetting themselves on MOTD One nice gesture I saw yesterday was Paul Robinson just prior to kick off to the second half give a football to a young fan behind the goal.seems like a thoroughly decent bloke and was MOTM For me
Again, as I think Mikey said earlier, that is 2 points dropped, like against Hull. I know our bench was limited but why did we not bring another forward on all game? Should have stuck 2 up top for the last 20, especially when they took Gomes off for Dunn. It was a joy to see Nuno Gomes though - that first time ball for thier goal was magic. Very nice to see Colin Hendry again too - even if he was cheeky with not giving the ball back.
How crap was Danny murphy don't recall many of his passes finding a rovers player most went to us or touch....very poor
think it was slightly more than booing. he prob didnt sleep last night.... i didnt join in, its a bit much. but, saying that, the little pleb was moaning all match and deserved some stick.
Was abit OTT but there again that's football and I'd get verbally abused for 90 mins for his money no problem
Thoroughly enjoyable game, and with a bit more good fortune we could have won by a significant margin. The referee was a complete dollop, with seemingly only a passing acquaintance with the concept of playing advantage, and the way he let Nono Gomes back onto the field after treatment, right in the middle of a Blackburn attack, could have cost us the game. Highlights for me were - Cort and Morrison, how many times am I going to say that this season - they were magnificent. Kerkar nutmegging Pedersen - we may never see that again, ever, by anyone. Danny Green, sharp and full of running. Nuno Gomes first-time ball for their goal. Robinson's saves from Green and BWP at the end. Finally, Hamer asking for, and getting Morten Gamst Pedersen's shirt at the end - just what I would have done as well. And now for Udinese Reserves on Tuesday. I'm expecting a win.
