Right on the nail Wats... It is close season, nothing to really write about, no sound bites. This is a nothing story, a space filler. Birch says we need characters/leaders....we have all been saying this. It is not rocket science or news. He is absolutely right. It impinges not a bit on anything...it is not worth getting upset/worked up about. We have no real leaders...we will probably have to acquire or buy one, the trick will be to get a leader that does not upset the applecart...difficult. Wats SO correctly says...."We probably are ****ed but not because of this."
I was hoping for Lynch to do a similar job...but both Bidwell and Lynch have mistakes constantly in them, which makes leadership difficult. A settled team that is doing OKay, with few mistakes...and perhaps our natural chatty leaders will come to the fore
I think the whole idea of 'needing leaders in the team' is an expansive excuse to cover up greater problems. You can develop leaders by creating an environment for players to flourish. What's stopping Darnell Furlong becoming one? We haven't even got a preferred style of play yet because Holloway keeps needlessly tinkering! Stick to your guns Ian, don't lose faith if you suffer a defeat, and get back to basics. - Inject some pace out wide - Get a tackler in the middle of the park - Sign a physical CB who can head the ball all day long to play alongside Grant Hall You stick to the basics in this league, and you've got half a chance
I would love to have a competent defence again; not have the opposition look like scoring with every dead ball situation
The type of player is not that relevant if the coaching staff aren't employing tactics that allows them to pass the ball. The ability to hold the ball under pressure is central to the modern game and yet QPR rarely combine more than 2 or 3 touches. Even assuming we can find a decent midfield pivot (sorry Massimo, that's not you) then he will need the rest of the team to look for him rather than punt upfield. I'd just like one glimmer of hope that Holloway and Bircham understand that.
