I think it's pretty harsh to say Billy was terrible. I thought he looked decent - made a lot of good runs and got in very good positions. He missed the sitter and couldn't control a through ball which would have given a one-on-one, but at least he is getting in there.

Come on, he's only started 2 games for us, (possibly) scoring one! He's going to score a shed load for us this season.

Also, he received some disgusting abuse on Twitter last night, albeit this one is from a Donny fan... - http://twitpic.com/8k1uqq

He was terrible. I'm all for giving players chances but I'm not going to pretend to myself he had a good game. As well as a sitter, he screwed the through ball and a few times failed to take the ball forwards, instead miscontrolling to slow attacks down. No point getting in positions and making runs if you're going to do that.

Granted I'll let him use nerves as an excuse. Away to top of the league, new signing at a big club which he isn't familiar with, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. At least he was getting into positions which shows once his nerves settle down he'll have no problems getting goals.

That said, there's no way I can describe him as anything but poor last night. I even said he wasn't looking good before the miss.

i was at the game, right behind the goal. Yeah he missed a chance but it happened in a flash. But you're talking ****e mate, Sharpe fits into the team really well and he's getting into the positions and he's physically strong. Dont be such a moaning git....

If you're talking to me I suggest you re-read my post. I didn't suggest he doesn't fit into the team, nor has anybody else I've seen. Also his name is not Sharpe but Sharp.

"He was terrible. I'm all for giving players chances"
"there's no way I can describe him as anything but poor "

Yeah I'm talkin to you. I just hope our players dont read any of this ****

Why is it a crime to point out when one of our players has a bad game?! Am I supposed to do what some idiots do and say they've all had amazing games when they've been shocking?! I think Sharp will be a very good player for us and will always give him support but he had, in my opinion, a terrible game. I'm sorry that I'm not swayed by bias into thinking that he was tip ****ing top but I'm being reasonable

You've got some nerve trying to tell me I'm "talking ****" because I committed the heinous crime of suggesting one of our players didn't have a good day. My word, string me from Itchen Bridge for my wicked ways!

Maybe it's because he's come with such high expectations but the team has missed sitters all season, it seems a bit unfair to single out Sharp.

I pointed out that my disappointment in him from last night was about more than that sitter, though it's certainly the worst I've seen us miss all season. I'm not narrow-minded enough to focus my whole judgement on a performance around one miss...

I didn't mean you had singled him out Dan, I was refering to the article as a whole.

Although we have scored loads of goals overall, we have also been guilty of missing some crucial chances away from home. Some of them have been in games where we have been under pressure for long periods and could have stolen some points. This was happening long before Sharp joined us, even the the great Sir Rickie has missed sitters.

ok ok, sorry dan you're allowed to say what you want .... i'm being over the top also...

but on another point, i really enjoyed the game. It was very exciting right from the start and it felt intense, my voice is gone today... I was talkin to some west ham fans after the game in a bar after the game and they were very complimentary about saints style of play though particulary in the 2nd halfand that they were relieved when the final whistle blew. They were howling for it. Also, rather amusingly they (west ham fans) hate their mangager sam aladyse!! Its quite funny funny, their slightly deluided view is that anyone could get west hame promoted with the squad they have and they really dislike his long ball hoof it policy.

I'm definitely not surprised to hear WH fans not being fans of Alardyce, I was skimming a wH forum, and some were embarassed that we were singing 'you used to play football' :emoticon-0106-cryin

Sharps tweet last night.

It was a very enjoyable game especially with how crazy everyone went at the throat shove and then later goal.

I think any competent manager could get them promoted, the squad they have is top notch. So many good playmakers wasted because of Big Sam's tactics...

yep, with seconds to go before the final whistle west hame were singing 'we've only got 10 men, we've only got 10 men ' etc etc.... and in what i'd say was an inspired retort from the saints fans was' you used to play football, you used to play football'

i think it struck a chord. i like west ham fans though.

I can see why so many referees give in to the west ham crowd. They moan and groan for every decision and the ref last night was lost.
