I was thinking about all the trouble we had before the new stadium was ready to move into surely brentford will have trouble getting a safety certificate what with fans unable to attend test events because of covid19

I'm sure the posters who were so furious when Poch sacked off the Season Killer Cup (even in the seasons we reached the final or the semis...) are going to be just as infuriated when the ubermensch fields a bunch of reserves and U23 players...

Still crying about Poch?

Do you not think there’s a little bit of a difference between that opening bunch of fixtures jam packed with euro qualifiers and sacking it off because you think you’re too good for it?

Speak of the devil...

Just a reminder, but Alex Ferguson thought he was too good for the Season Killer Cup, and I don't recall Man Utd's fans being upset at it. I also don't recall Man Utd fans having to pretend that they never reached the final of the competition to keep mouthing off, either...

No matter what you think of Jose, Poch and SAF cannot be compared. Easy to not be bothered about the League Cup when you’re winning, well, the league itself, regularly. As well as everything else. Which as good a manager Poch was for us, he didn’t do.

Ferguson also started off trying to win all the cups. The League Cup was his third trophy with Utd, IIRC.
Also won the Scottish equivalent with Aberdeen.

Is our recent record in the league cup in recent seasons (under Poch) that much worse than under any other manager or is he just victim of our greater expectation, we reached 1 final and another semi. I don't think we average a semi final every 3 seasons over the history of the tournament. Yes we have lost matches we should have won, but in cup competitions name a team who haven't, I am sure that no manager sends a team out to lose.

Let's talk about the time The Honest and Humble Saint Harris of Redknapp sent out a team of reserves and youth teamers for a Season Killer Cup NLD

Why does that match always get conveniently forgotten?

I have just finished reading the excellent Dame Julie Welch's new book " The Fleet Street Girls " not a football book but a Brilliant insight to Fleet Street in the 70s and 80s from a woman's point of view
This can take a place on my " keep " book shelf along with her other books Biography of Tottenham Hotspur and Ghost of White Hart Lane the John White story

I enjoyed Danny Blanchflower's book, espesially his story of his signing for Spurs instead of Arsenal. Apparently the two managers were invited to the Aston Villa chairman's home to talk transfer fees.Tom Whittaker was interviewed in the front room.Arthur Rowe in the kitchen!!!! Seems Arsenal wouldn't pay the extra 2,000 so they lost out!
Can you imagine Danny at Arsenal?

It’s an excellent read. I’ve got a lot of time for Julie Welch.
