Porridge writer Dick Clement said Vaughan had "made Grouty his own", adding: "He had a wonderful quality of being menacing and at the same time funny, not an easy thing to pull off."

Also remember him from Citizen Smith. From the early series when it was really good. Can still see him delivering the line

    - Human nature or not, no dog of mine is going behave like an animal.

Was replaced by some no mark later when it got daft

Takes me back Brian to my school days.Mum messed up and changed my schools 9months before my 11 plus.
I was encouraged to mess about .....and failed my 11 plus, which sent me to Parkhurst Sec Mod in Tottenham.
I heard every one of my class in the earlier school went to Grammar,High,County or Cental schools.I can't help thinking.......
But I've had a great life in my simple ways.Met great people.Had 3 heartattacks ( the last 12 years ago!).Met some nice girls.Even married an American....so now I can say I can speak 2 languages....English and American!

    COYS!

Ted Willis was a constant mentioner of Spurs in his series Dixon of Dock Green.
David Tomlinson's character in Mary Poppins "played" center forward for Tottenham Hotspur! (He said)......and our lady from Star Trek was a gang member and Spurs mad in real life as a youngster....and still is ( not a gang member, that is!)
I remember someone saying to Warren Mitchell (Alf Garnett) Up the 'ammers! I believe he told him to piss off!
Leslie Philips (him with the lardy dardy voice thanks to his mum sending to elecution lessons) Tottenham born and bred was a keen Spurs fan.

....and you can mention many more.....

Such as Finn Balor, Bob Marley, Peter Cook, Colin Firth, King Harald V of Norway, Jude Law, Pearce Brosnan and Barry Norman - and I'm counting Olivia Munn because of...reasons.

...just don't mention Iain Duncan Smith, Mikey Ashley, Richard Littlejohn or Phillip Green.

The BBC have obviously seen the appeal of a tie involving a PL team at home to a Championship one......

Spurs v Villa it is then.

I used to feel like United being on TV all the time gave them a big advantage for picking up new fans but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore :p

It's a shame BT and BBC left out the Sutton v Wimbledon game, that was probably the pick of the bunch!

While Man Utd have their 872nd consecutive televised live FA Cup match, courtesy of BT.
What are they going to do with all of their scouse pundits?

Just a reminder, but Southern Rail's HQ is in Leicestershire.

That certainly explains why they get so arsey when people dare suggest they're not the most efficient rail network...

Don't say aloud that they operate a "counter-customer game" either.

Another one gone!!! Only 9 months after Keith Emerson committed suicide, Greg Lake succumbs to cancer. Carl Palmer must be ****ting himself!!! :emoticon-0141-whew:

Seriously, the loss of so many top musicians in such a short span of time is frightening. Guess they are all 'of an age' - but that just reminds me how old I am getting!!! <wah>

I was surprised that this was selected, not a particularly romantic tie, in recent seasons TV picks have generally been potential giant killings or all premier league ties, looking at the draw and with the BBC having had a massive love in with Leicester I was expecting their tie with Everton to be selected, maybe someone at the BBC forgot to notice that Villa were relegated last season!

At least BT have made some effort by selecting Cambridge v Leeds, and I agree with NKNG that Wimbledon v Sutton should have been chosen ahead of one of either Us, Utd or Liverpool.

That's sad. ELP were a bit too "prog" for me most of the time, but they did some good stuff, my favourite being "Pirates". Perhaps "I believe in father christmas" will be rereleased? Another one I missed until only recently - he died earlier in the year - was Burt Kwouk. Always enjoyed seeing him, and don't think he took himself too seriously which is always a good thing. Loved him in the Pink Panther films, and was always sure to turn up when the BBC needed an "oriental character" (no offence intended).

Burt Kwouk starred in 'T-Bag Bounces Back', 'Madame Sin', 'Fat Slags', 'Deep End' and 3 Bond movies. However, he never played a character called Wang or Dong.

Bobby Zamora's announced his retirement from football, six months after he was released by Brighton

Not true, as there's two credits on his CV where he played a character named Wang
