At 3 o'clock this afternoon, you could get odds of 33/1 on Harry to be the next Blackburn manager. Now, less than 3 hours later, the longest odds you can get on this is 5/2 and most bookies only offering 2/1. I know he's missing football, but surely he can't be that desperate ??
Very surprising news. Us scouts get reports on our loaned players and all I have read give positive reports on him. I am at the club on Saturday morning for the under 21 game and I'll try and get the background to this then.
Perhaps AVB doesn't want to play Dempsey on the right and fancied a backup option who's suited to that side or maybe Smith will be going out on loan soon.
Lawro has us down for a 0-2,I bloody hope so because I'm very deflated and apathetic after yesterday. There's an interesting spread of opinion on the Chelsea/Utd match though. A chance to catch up on the leaders here.
Apparantly he has been left out of their matchday squad for the last 2 league games. Spurs asked why, and were not given what we thought was a satisfactory answer. On then hearing it was not intended to include him in their squad for today, Spurs said that's not helping us and it's not helping the player, so made the decision to bring him back. He played for the under 21's this morning at right-back and looked very accomplished. I thought he had a very good game and played his part in what was a good all round team performance. .
You'd hope that Naughton or Smith would get a chance in that role ahead of Fredericks, really. The right hand side of our midfield seems to consist of Lennon and then... er, nobody, though. Fuck me Croydon, what happened to your rep? I don't really pay any attention to it generally, but 3 red bars is unusual. Scousers, by any chance?
Somebody should probably tell it that the truth hurts him more than him clicking a button hurts me. It just makes it look like an idiot that it "has" to dislike every accurate thing I say about its club...
To me one of the daftest acts in football is for a team to offer cash and a player to another team for a certain player. Real have offered cash plus a player for Bale. Why offer a player the team has never had intentions on? Do we need another defender? Why accept another player who's never been looked at just as a makeweight for one of our star players? It's even daft to offer a player who has never had intentions of joining that club and who wouldn't be guaranteed first team football. Unless somebody can give me the reasons why it's practiced then I'm all for scrapping it.
Swap deals don't happen very often for the exact reasons that you've stated, TMT. Clubs like Real Madrid can make them work, though. If you're offered a decent amount of money for someone, plus a good player in a position that you need to fill or a direct replacement for the player leaving, then it can be an attractive option. This deal's a media creation in my opinion, however. Fabio Coentrao's Portuguese and out of favour, so it looks like some join the dots journalism, to me.
It's been referred to as a £50m deal, but given Real paid £24m for Coentrao what they're really offering is a lot less than that.
Coentrao? He's a good attacking full-back, but we don't need someone in that position at the moment. If there's any truth in the rumour suggesting that Chelsea want Assou-Ekotto to replace Cole in the summer, then he'd be an excellent replacement, but it seems more likely that they'd go for Coentrao, to me. I wouldn't want him as part of any deal for Bale, unless it also included a massive fee.
