In defence of the places that aren't London and Dublin, there are some great cities/towns which aren't full of inwards looking EDL supporting ****s, places like York, Worcester, Newcastle, Harrogate and most cities on the South Coast are really nice from my experience and the people I've encountered there have all seemed pretty friendly, certainly a lot friendlier than the twats who inhabit London who aren't just inward looking, but self-obsessed.

Yeah I know I was generalising. I quite like Brighton, very bohemian and there are a few southern coastal towns such as Weymouth etc I've visited which were lovely. I'm sure there are a few great northern towns as well but I've only been to Manchester which isn't much better than Belfast. But I do tend to like the urban multi cultural backdrops with good social scenes. I get sick very quickly of having the same type of people around me all the time (as in Guerns) - meeting lots of different people who grew up in different backgrounds and have ended up travelling for different reasons makes for much more interesting nights in the pub.
 
If I had to live somewhere else in Britain instead of the beautiful and elegant city of Edinburgh it would be Cornwall. A nice cottage on the outskirts of St. Ives or Mount's Bay.

Belfast is not that bad <laugh>

All the same **** in both cities is what I meant, Wetherspoons, Nandos, tons of useless shopping centres. Along with very similar weather and quite a similar look about the city center, grey concrete with not a lot of character.

I've never been to Belfast to be fair, I just saw a Donal McIntyre program there and it looked awful. I've had family living there too. So did Glasgow though.

**** me, Bradford is a hole. Anyone seen Rita, Sue and Bob Too? I'm pretty sure that was based on the outskirts of Bradford, and it was grim. It may have been another one of thoes god-awful dumps in West Yorks like Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Halifax etc though.
 
Swansea is a ****hole of a City, an embarrasment - I should know, I live there! The people who rebuilt it after the war did a far better job of ruining it that the Luftwaffe ever did. The city centre has hardly any family businesses or independent shops, virtually everything is a chain franchise including most of the pubs, theres no charachter anywhere. One of the nicknames it's got now is Tesco-Town, cos nearly every bit of competition has been engulfed by Tescos, they're everywhere! It is a soulless, drepressing place. I only live about 5 miles from the City Centre and I can count the number of times I've been there in the last 2 years on one hand.

That said, although the city itself is a craphole, it's surrounded by some of the greatest countryside, and especially beaches, that you'll find anywhere.

Dylan Thomas called it the 'Ugly beautiful city' The film Twin Town was more accurate when they called it 'Pretty ****ty city' I'd describe Swansea and it's surrounds as a dog turd surrounded by icing sugar.

Sounds like Derby. Not overtly a dump, but so devoid of character that it becomes one in its own right. I've heard Milton Keynes is the same, never been there fortunately.

Coventry needs a mention too! Never been there myself but a couple of mates have lived there, sounds ****ing horrible. One mate got punched with brass knuckles on Xmas eve and lost 4 teeth, and the two other guys he was with got bottled and stabbed in separate incidents. Plus it never really got rebuilt after the war.

I reckon that's more because Man United are so universally despised. How many of these people have actually been? Not that many I reckon.
