Talisker is one of my favourites.

Just bought my dad some Auchentoshan (Amazon £20). Looking forward to trying that ;)

Or talk about whisky instead (bloody whiskey and bourbon cluttering up a thread about proper scotch whisky...terrible)

Although I agree Scotch whisky is far and away the best, there are some really nice bourbons around. Blantons Gold is one of my favourites and I have just tried a Wild Turkey Single Barrel. The good ones are generally only available online though, and tend to cost upwards of £60 or £70 so not exactly every day drinkers!

Wild Turkey is probably my favourite.

I don’t think scotch is best as such to be honest, although I do prefer it. I just think they’re totally different drinks
I do like a bourbon, but I certainly don’t know as much about them

I think what I like best about Scotch is the variation in style between distilleries, and even within different releases from the same distillery. Every flavour under the sun is present in one scotch whisky or another at some point. Bourbon tends to just be smoother, subtler variations of much the same flavour - a lot of which I think is down to the rules that it has to be matured in new virgin oak.

Dark Rum (with Port sometimes also Pepsi instead of Port), Spicy Rum (neat or with Pepsi), Brandy (neat or with lemonade), and maybe some Cognac, Red wine, end of preferences.

Is Bourbon a type of Whiskey , or is it just Bourbon ?

I'd probably like Whisky if I spent £70 on a bottle but I've just tried the cheap stuff and it put me off really

Yeah Bourbon is whiskey but made mainly with corn rather than barley, which is what malt whisky is made with.

Any whisky below £20 is generally vile stuff, and I find it's about £30-£35 before it starts to become pleasant. Although I do think it is becoming stupidly overpriced in many instances nowadays.
