If you get your facts right you will find that Summerbee started out on the wing for Swindon, Man City signed him as a winger but converted him to a center forward (striker) were he had a lot of success and that season you will find he was wearing the no 9 shirt but he could not get the better of Sjoberg and was put back on the wing.
But was he playing centre forward for england in the 8 caps?
Also you better change wikipedia as it quotes as winger for Man city
Also some quotes from Man city pages
"Mike made over 200 appearances before moving from Swindon to Manchester City in 1965 for a bargain £35,000. He was a tenacious winger, who also made a number of appearances at Centre Forward."
"Worth noting that although we all think of Mike Summerbee as a great winger (which he was), he was centre-forward for most of the 1967-68"
so yes he played centre forward but more often a winger

Google Bluemoon, he wore the no 7 and 9 shirt for Man City AND England, and like I first stated in the cup tie replay against us, he played center forward and could not get a look in against John Sjoberg so much so that he was put out on the wing.

So the shirt number indicates were he plays
Bobby Charlton wore 9 for England but was never thre centre forward for them
No doubt Summerbee played centre forward in the match but was better known as a winger. I presume the had no other centre forwards so putting him out to the wing was feather in Sjobergs cap

"Playing on the right wing, Summerbee was one of the most influential players in the Manchester City side which won four trophies in three seasons from 1968–70." fromm wikipedia.
So Sjoberg forced him to play his usual position
I happened to come across Malcolm Manley in the late 1970s when working for British Shoe in Leicester - he had just come back from Australia. Obviously we started talking about the City players and when I mentioned Sjoberg he just laughed. At the end of a training session the squad would break up into groups of 3 or 4 and they had to pass the ball between all the players for a set number of times and keep it off the ground. Apparently the group with Sjoberg in was always the last to get back into the changing room.

He was totally bereft of any football skills, but he would absolutely hammer any centre forward that came near him. The best one I remember was Terry Paine, the old Southampton winger, coming up to him and feinting one way and then the other. Was the big Swede overawed? Not a bit of it. I'll swear he never even looked at the ball, and as Paine but the ball one way big John made his move and absolutely poleaxed him. It took the trainers some time to persuade him to get back to his feet. Just loved the bloke.
