Do you speak it? My brother works in Eindhoven and took an intensive course, from what I've heard of it, its certainly not a language to use if you want to serenade someone!

I do! The words certainly don't roll off your tongue as it's quite uneasy! Although it's nowhere near as bad as German!

Hoegaarden is lovely, you can get it in most supermarkets over here too!

Also in a similar vein, Leffe is very nice.

Really? I always found German OK, never did it beyond school like so that's probably why, just a fair few of the words had similar sounds/basis' - guessing this is due to early British heritage etc. (not too in to my etymology) where as Dutch sounds alien to me!

I really don't like Leffe, everyone else seems to love it but it just tastes a bit burnt or something? I'll continue to persevere (or at least drink the odd one every now and then) but at the minute I just don't get it?

Each to his own I guess. There are worse languages than the ones we mentioned.. Ever heard someone speak Russian? :)

Fairly sure I spoke it fluently for about 10 minutes after a session on Marinov, but other than that...

Fluent in all but German then. I think if I was to put my mind to it I'd find German the easiest to speak.

    Yeah I speak dodgy German...

Nah think French or Dutch is much easier to learn , less exceptions and easier rules.

Edit - if it had to be one only though I'd go with the Orval.

I try, it's very broken though...I tend to find that '****', '**** aye' and '****' (if it failed the first time) can be used in most if not all social situations!

Any particular reason? Work-related, girl-related or just a bit of an interest?

I'm Lebanese raised in an English/Arabic speaking family. Live in Belgium ---> Dutch and learned French and German at school.

That's as far as I'll go in languages though! I've had enough.

Surprised nobody's mentioned Kopperbergs yet. Corona's are bloody brilliant. Peroni's are good but a bit expensive <grr>.

It's amazing how most people can't speak English after a night out on the pop.
