Definitely no to Lennon or Hughton, Steve Clarke maybe but I think we are going to foreign fields again! (IMHO)
Interesting. One thing which comforts me (and may have been down to the players knowing what was in the wind) was the apparent level of unity amongst the players on the pitch. I'm only judging from the Hornet Player extended highlights, but I get the sense that they are together. (Dyer might mot agree). If the bulk of them are playing for each other then whoever gets the post will have an easier task than if there were factions.
I wonder how much of an understanding there was when Troy Deeney signed his new contract? At the start of the season he was asked did he expect promotion come next spring. "Not with this clown in charge" he is reported as saying. I have no reason to think that the person reporting it would have made it up, and with Beppe saying he was going, then changing his mind seems to suggest that he was asked to go.
I find it hard to believe that he didn't know. http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-on-manager-beppe-sanninos-decision-to-resign
It is a yes man they want though as it is now clear they require everything to be done the same in all 3 clubs. Will that work in the Championship? And who will accept these restrictions? I find it hard to believe that a Head Coach with Championship knowledge will accept this; so it is down to Galli or Garcia and I think Garcia would want more of a say so he is out - or will not last long if he has been installed by the time I publish!
i have seen it quoted that each player made a point a of shaking his hand at the end of the game they must have known something was going to happen soon .
I see that Jon Marks will be talking on 3CR from 6.00pm about what has been going on. I wonder if he will shed anymore light on matters? He has clearly been holding his tongue recently. I have an appointment with French neighbours for an apero, so will miss it.
I also think that AC knew what was coming as I've never seen him smile like he did during his post-match interview on Saturday.
It's possible Barry but the nature of the win and the atmospehere towards the end of the game would have been enough to make anyone grin like a Cheshire cat. To be honest I'm glad he was able to bow out on the back of an occasion like that - he'll be fondly remembered for that alone!
How interesting to learn that the data from Watford training sessions are analysed by specialists back at Pozzo H.Q. That is a sign of the modern game, and must be a help to a forward thinking coach who can compare the performance of his players with that of players in other clubs in the group. It also serves to keep the coach on his toes--what he does on the training ground with players is being monitored by experts . Surely no modern coach would object to that? It is not being a "yes man" to accept that regime. It seems to me that Beppe was too much of an old style coach --a Warnock type--for the modern player and for the owners. Too much reliance on swearing and confrontation as motivational tools, poor communication skills, too much emphasis on qualities such as "anger and passion"--not enough by themselves. We want more than a team in that image. The model of a coach these days is Rodgers or Pochetinno, not Warnock . The owners did not trust him to deliver the goods, despite giving him all the tools for the job. Best change the coach now, for someone more forward thinking who can get the best out of players--even improve them--and use all the resources in the Pozzo set-up. There could hardly be a stronger statement of intention from the owners.
Some of those names have ruled themselves out like Di Matteo. Roger is right - players (and owners) don't usually like people to rant and rave but want to build their club with a director of football doing the transfer dealings. We just aren't used to it in this country. Its quite ironic though that the English players are the ones who are unsettled and didn't like Sannino. Presume McGugan worked ok with Billy Davies at Forest and he doesn't strike me as a calm and composed person! You'd think a few of the overseas lads might be upset...but maybe they are used to an aggressive approach. Quite a contrast from Zola which maybe didn't help...
Quite agree, Roger. Technology is enabling a much more detailed analysis of every aspect of training and match performance. What's more it needs a good brain to draw appropriate conclusions from the analysis and act on them. The management of players themselves requires a degree of flexibility too. It's long been known not everyone responds to shouting. Players of obvious quality often struggle in new environments and getting the best out of them is a complex task. It looked to me on Saturday that we possess a collection of skilful individuals with varying levels of motivation and some uncertainty about how they are expected to operate as a team...and therein lies the new manager's first objective, to blend individual talent and motivation into a confident team.
One wonders how the likes of Brian Clough would have faired under this 'modern' regime. I think its a shame he's gone as as far as i can see he was producing the goods and to be honest if a few of the players got fed up - but still taking their huge pay each week - then that reflects poorly on them. I worry this could be a second big managerial mistake by the Pozzo's - Sean Dyche was their first. Lets hope we aren't becoming the untouchable club after all we don't have the attraction of Man U or other clubs who can play the managerial merry-go-round and come out on top.
It's brilliant Theo - they just publish broadly the same list of names for every club and change some of the prices.
I thought Troy hit the nail on the head when he was commentating on the Doncaster game, some of the lads need a kick up the proverbial to respond (Deeney gave himself as an example) and others need to be cajoled and told how brilliant they are... a very mature attitude demonstrating people skills as needed in a Captain also needed in a manager.
Back from some very good wine and good company. Worked hard on the French chat, so feeling that international relations are going well. Missed the Jon marks interview on 3CR, but found it here. Interesting. http://www.wfc.net/files/Jon_Marks.mp3
