Chancellor George Osborne is considering lowering the maximum amount families can claim in benefits to £20,000 a year, Treasury sources say.

A £26,000 cap on the total amount of benefits that non-working people aged 16 to 64 can receive, is coming into force in England, Scotland and Wales.
Critics say the changes will not tackle underlying problems of worklessness.

But Treasury sources say the cap could be lowered in future if it is shown to work.

Now that's benefits sorted, they need to get rid of some of the other things dragging this country down.

How about the minimum wage? That's waaaaaay too high.

Also, I swear a friend of a neighbour of my cousin's horse said that he heard down the pub that there was a poor person somewhere that ate fruit the other day. That's ****ing out of order <grr> <grr> I pay my taxes and these layabouts get to eat fruit?

Let's look back at how things were 100 years ago and degrade everyone else's standard of living to that level. We live a life of luxuries nowadays and we're not even grateful for it <doh>

Large corps do pay the tax they are due. They use the rules as set out. The Government won't change the rules on them despite the noises they made in recent times about Starbucks and Google and such. They're too ****in scared of big business.

You want the people charged with representing you in the House of Commons to earn in a year less than half of what Wayne Rooney does in a week?

You want MPs to earn the same as Wayne Rooney?

No. But I want them earning enough to make the job worthwhile. I know most people think politicians are ****s with their noses in the trough but the vast majority of them are hardworking and honest. They put in a lot of hours and have to put up with a lot of ****e.

No, they use loop holes to avoid paying what they are actually due...

The TAX shorfall is something like £20b ... and they got out of it by wining and dining HMRC officials.

As you say, they are too scared of big businesses ...

£50k a year should be sufficient ...

That's not a problem.

Only Ukip *****s think that it is, it's been blown out of proportion by the media.

We need people in age of work to come here (and don't say they just come here and get handouts, that's bullshit). In 20 years time most of this country will be old people, and with no one to work/pay taxes, we're going to be ****ed <ok>

I've no problem with MP's getting the pay rise as recently voted for. An 11% pay rise for them is a drop in the ocean compared to the cost of a 1% pay rise for public sector workers.

What I do have a problem with is them doing it now, at a time when every other **** is being told to tighten their belts.

First parts balls!

I agree, we need immigrants to a certain point - but fully skilled immigrants like engineers, doctors etc or those that can fill a skills gap.

Not many countries would accept you long term if you offered nothing in return...
