Right, but you stated it was “rank unprofessiinalism” because he started off pre season at MK (which he was invited too), and moved on when they couldn’t agree a deal. So he continued to work in a gym in a bid to stay fit. That’s not unusual for any out of contract player.

It’s **** that we haven’t seen much of a player who we expect big things from, but going after him does nothing. Criticise the club for signing someone who has a questionable injury record, but let’s not make Reeves a scapegoat.

The reason I go after Reeves [as you put it] is that it appears to me he has joined the very long cast of characters since 2006 who has joined Charlton in order to fleece it. I will judge him by his appearances assuming he eventually makes some, but he has made a very bad start.

Play football or else don't take the money, quite simple really.

[And we are talking about Ben Reeves, not Zlatan...]

He’s suffering with injuries and fitness - not being problematic and refusing to play. Not sure it’s fair to label him as having a “bad start” considering he hasn’t been able to, but here’s hoping he finds fitness and form soon. He’s talented at this level.

Zlats is an interesting comparison considering his situation.

Are you Reeves’ agent <laugh>

I would have respected Reeves more had he looked after himself better over the summer or else offered to defer his pay until he was fit to play for us. Hopefully he will step out of his cotton wool cocoon at Walsall tomorrow night. We need him.

Reeves gets the scrutiny because of the high hopes we had in him. We got him because we knew the manager rated him highly, which isn't usually the case, and he was a KR target. It reminds me a bit of the Danny Green signing.

Nah - just someone who failed to see how he was being a “rank unprofessional”. How he kept himself fit (in a gym) is how 95% of out of contract players do it.

If you know more of how he neglected himself then let us know <ok>

As for the financial implications, he isn’t getting his full cheddar whilst he’s out. Like most players at the club he’s on a barmy bonus conatructed contract. I guess in this sense it benefits the club and not the player.

I can understand the frustration because at this level he is a good player, but the guy is doing what’s asked of him. Could KR have used the money more wisely - fair argument considering the non start we’ve had with Reeves.

That shouldn’t be put on BR though. That’s an issue with management and club.

He should have had a full pre season with MKD.

Thought you were on an earner <cheers>

he didnt do a very good job then as someone who is fit would be match ready by now. I think the questions are aimed at the "why isnt he ready?" if he was supposed to have kept himself in shape. From someone who earns a living being a professional athlete you'd have thought he would know how to stay trim and get himself ready. The impression coming out is that he hasn't bothered. And with that sort of attitude you can't blame some fans for being angry by it - it's all we've had for years now and we're fed up.

that's never been relayed though has it? it's always been that he hasnt had a pre-season. however good he is (when he is fit) we've missed having a concrete second striker for the last 3 games and i'd have rather us have now spent his signing fee and wages on that. it's how the regime works, just plain nuts. not a footballing brain from manager upwards

I don’t know why KR has gone down this route with Reeves (mixed messages). Pure guess work - it seems he’s trying to protect Reeves somewhere but failing miserably.

With question marks over his injury record perhaps they are trying to prevent further Qs as to why we signed a player, who then got injured.
