Er, is it me or would it be posible for the excellent directors of these struggling clubs to tuck a bit of cash in the bank for a rainy day when they are raking it in up in the Premier clouds? Yes, it's a dificult transition, pertly because they pissed away every penny and more trying to keep themselves up. At least (!?!) we seemed to keep our losses realistic so that while it's been a bumpy ride, we don't face repaying people 163m plus.
Is'nt there a sort of Finances 101 course football chairmen could be obliged to go on, as most of them don't seem to be able to do simple arithmetic.
 
Chairmen are under a lot of pressure from fans and managers to "invest" their money in the club's coffers. Chairmen who try to balance the books get short shrift from all and sundry.
 
Staff have been offered contracts as of end of last week. Talks are ongoing this week with regards to their contracts. Takeover is nearly completed.

He didn't bring it up. He responded to a question in relation to the pitch, is it the number one priority when the takeover is completed. He explained contracts of playing and back room staff are number one, adding to to the team second and then finally the pitch. Though the pitch cannot be sorted until the season is finished so seemed a bit of a pointless question to me, but then again maybe they can get something to protect it?
 
Yep - the delay was nothing to do with the training ground. It was waiting on all directors to sign it off. So even though slater and TJ bought the club, it needed to be signed off by the old guard.

Also, as mentioned to a couple in private the other day, the price was cut because they wanted to retain some right to the valley if it was sold in a certain time frame. So in theory, if it were sold for 20 mil in 2 years time, they would have wanted a % of that to make up some of the difference from the original asking price. The new guy obviously wanted to buy it outright, to which I'm not sure has happened. My old man will speak to someone this coming weekend and I'll report what he hears. But it might explain the difference from the reported £14m to now the reported £20m.

One speculative bit - my dad's source speculates this will be a short term job. Probably stay as long as TJ/Dlater etc. that's just an opinion though <ok>
 
I, sadly, couldn't care less about the takeover.

A Football Club shouldn't be owned by someone who isn't from it; Charlton Athletic is not a commodity and I hate Football Clubs being viewed as businesses (although obviously I'm not naive enough to understand that that's how it is now and that's how you survive).

But I really don't get why people are so excited, and why the masses of North Stand morons have equated this to be automatically a good thing; not one person on Twitter seems apprehensious or slightly concerned.

Are they all thick*? Or am I jaded?

I am excited because we now have a chance of A) staying up B) being financially secure for the present and hopefully in the future pushing for the Premiership. C) Getting rid of the chuckle brothers.

I know what you mean, kish. I've seen comments about the play offs, and us needing 5 million to go up.

1) look at Leicester, reading, Bolton etc. that doesn't guarantee anything.

2) avoiding relegation is still the aim - let's not get ahead of ourself!
 
North stand morons ... Well us morons are the ones who create an atmosphere without us there would be none ever..the rest of the ground sit on their hands like they are at the theatre
 
I agree with Kish, although the reception on CL was fairly mixed. Frankly I reckon we are deep in the brown stuff. I have no idea whether this guy will be beneficial long term, but in the short term we need the fix. My welcome is therefore reserved but there. We'll see what plans this guy has, and I doubt CP figures in them given his record. However, as fans, our opinion was never asked, and whatever happens it won't be our fault.
 
Obviously money helps but it's how you spend it not how much you spend

Take us for example. Sven paid 4M for Matt Mills

For that price Nigel Pearson brought Danny Drinkwater, Wes Morgan, Jamie Vardy, Anthony Knockaert and still had change

Teams take time to gel, it's just a case if your potential new owners really understand football. Our owners made mistakes with Sven but since they sacked him they have got 99% of their decisions correct and it's now looking like it will pay off

I hope you stick with Chris Powell and allow him to build on what he has started for you

I agree with most of this but please can we get past the North Stand Morons/West Stand Bovril drinking nonsense. Where did it all go wrong? 1998 when all those new people turned up? Target 10000? Get a grip, the people who pay their money and come through the turn-styles are fans of CAFC, there were once more people stood in our little patch of South London than at any other FA Cup match in history. There was a time when just a few thousand stood and watched at the Selhurst Park Donkey Sanctuary. Just 10 years ago the Valley was packed to the rafters as we taught Chelsea a footballing lesson. More or less committed, old fans or new, "from the peanuts to the toffs" as the old song says they are Charlton fans. I've watched football at the Valley from all four sides of the ground, I was sat behind the Jimmy Seed goal when King Carlo not only scored but put the ref in the net too. Am I a moron or a bovril drinker? Truth is I've been both and one day when my mum stops coming I'll take the boy behind the goal where he will want to be by then, then a few years later I'll leave him there with his mates and head back West with my Bovril.

On your main point having got past the prejudice. I wish it wasn't so, but it took a business deal to get us out of league one...

As a resident of the North Stand that drinks Bovril, I have completely lost my identity reading this.......

Yes, there are a lot of people in the North that to my mind talk a load of sh*t, but then again they may think exactly the same of my opinions. Football is all about opinions and is something that helps create such great debate on this forum.

I sat in the West Lower for a number of years all the time my Dad was financing my season ticket. Once I became of age to pay for myself, I switched to the North Lower in search of a better atmosphere. Granted, the West and East do not contribute AS MUCH to the atmosphere but they are just as much paying customers as I am and are quite entitled to just sit and watch a game of football.

The common denominator is that all are fans of Charlton Athletic, and (one would assume) all have the best interests of the club at heart.
