I don't agree with the death penalty in any way but stories like that really make me question my beliefs sometimes.

Pretty much. If he died I'd hardly be mourning, but it's not the place of the state to be putting people down. This isn't the kind of crime that would carry a death sentence anyway.

But at least in the States he would be facing life without parole.

I think sentences are out of sync with what normal people think. A monster like this will never be safe to release. It's the same with repeat rapists and murderers. Benefit of the doubt should be with public safety not the human rights of deviants. There is a world of difference between such criminals and a person who kills a family member in anger or by accident.

So I won a free pair of 'unique' shoes online, the only catch being I wouldn't know what they were like until they came.

I bought a pair from the same company three weeks ago, but only because the ones I really liked weren't available.

Anyway, long story short, the mystery shoes arrived today, and they're the ones I really liked, albeit with a minor difference.

Happy days!

Amazing luck! I've never won a competition in my life :|

Isn't it just! I'd never won anything before either! One of those 'send us a tweet and we'll pick someone at random' competitions.

They're one-offs which is quite nice (presuming they actually are...), and they'd normally set me back about £100.

The only difference is that instead of a white sole with a black trainer, they're red soles. Looks pretty good though.

If anyone is interested, you can read the full Ian Watkins judgement: http://www.judiciary.gov.uk/Resources/JCO/Documents/Judgments/r-v-watkins-and-others.pdf

Needless to say there's some pretty upsetting stuff in there.

EDIT: Okay very upsetting. Extreme discretion advised etc.

That certainly was graphic. For those who don't wish to read the nasty details, it's at least worth skipping to the last couple of paragraphs so you can see exactly how they determined the length of the sentence.
