Freedom in the UK was earnt via democracy, not from the Monarchy.

Its fair to say that all monarchs of this country never gave a **** about the ordinary people. They were there to serve, to die for them in battle & wars and to tax so they could live lavish decadent lives... and they still do.

They may only be "figure head" monarchs, but some people genuinely seem to believe they are "better people" than the rest of us. They certainly are not.

If all Royals died tomorrow, this country would not suffer one little bit. Time to move on as a country and grow up.

Indeed, it wasn't that long ago that Monarch's believed that they were ordained by God to rule and subjugate the masses, any attempt to redress the balance (The peasant's revolt, Tolpuddle martyrs) were swiftly and harshly dealt with. The things that make me proud of this country have NOTHING at all to do with Monarchy...Our language, culture, invention, the labour movement, the NHS are things that we should celebrate, not a few privileged people that were put into their position by their ancestors winning a fight on a battlefield.

One of the very few things I like about the French was saying "enough is enough" and ending their farcical monarchy. They never looked back and manage to get double the number of tourists than the UK does, so dispells the often tired argument that the Royals earn billions for this country. Do they bollocks.

Not to detract from your point, but they were replaced by Napoleon...

Oh for crying out loud who would stand outside Buckingham Palace all day just to hear a baby's been born?

The royals only gave up power when they got **** scared of a revolution like in France. Coupled with the industrial revolution, which made them redundant and shifted more power, money & influence to "ordinary" people.

That was the time when we should have done away with all together, but they clung on and this recent media/tory driven resurgance in popularity (based upon them doing what??) baffles me.

Perhaps there is an inner weakness to the British pysche that "we" want to be ruled? Also comes down to this era where people believe anything the media spew out and the youth of today would only ever revolt if their iphones were confiscated.

he came and went and certainly at times ruled France hard from behind (or in front) of his Army. But in latter years he did set up an education system & fairer taxation, but after his removal from power, the french people saw what it was like to be ruled by Kings & Emperors and have not been back since.

Always behind his army, never in front. He revolutionised military conflict by deciding it would be better to command from a safe distance. The more you know.

Anyway, yeah, France had a difficult transition to what it is now. Worked out nicely though.

Jeez. Pages and pages of ****e and not one person concerned for my welfare. Wigan Warriors just got beat by Saint Helens live on TV.... I didn't even realise the baby had been born; I was too busy shielding the ears of my children from the torrent if abuse my wife was aiming at the television.

I'm sorry, but Emma Watson is mediocre at best. She's better than Kristen Stewart, I give her that, and has more than one facial expression when acting. But there's something about her. Perhaps it's her jaw.

Kristen Stewart's hot too. Acting ability aside.

If you think Emma Watson is mediocre at best then maybe your ridiculously high standards are why you're not getting laid.

****ing Royal Family, parasites the lot of them.

Couldn't give a **** about this birth. A million things wrong with this country and even more with the world and the media whitewash everything in an orgy of fawning bullshit.

And the saddest thing of all, all these weak minded saps who swallow it all.

Do you have an issue with authority CBK. Firstly King Nicola, now the royal family.....

Whilst I do actually agree with most of your points, I think without the monarchy Great Britain would lose some of it's soul. Especially with the monarchy in it's current non-interfering non-religion based way. I don't think that the current generation of Royals do think they are "better people", when you look at the amount of charity and other such work that they do. Harry is going back to Afghanistan FFS. I think it's these younger more relevant royals which make me care.

They are kind of like media mascots for us these days. I know this doesn't provide any kind of rational explanation of why the monarchy should be kept but - meh. I loved the jubilee parties.. Union jack's and Pimms everywhere. The monarchy lifts the nations spirits when a big event such as this happens, in a way that no politician could.

With that being said, if getting rid of the monarchy would genuinely benefit the economy in any major way then I would support abolishing it. But the royal budget is literally a drop in the ocean, so I'm just going to enjoy the pomp and ceremony of it all.

Organising a street party to welcome the new baby are you?

The most visited country in the world is France and guess what? They chopped the heads off of their monarchs.

But France have a host of different heritage sites, weathers, ski resorts, cities and attractions to make it attractive for tourism. Britain has a couple of mountains, the monarchy and London;- and the weather is normally terrible.

And nope, I won't be throwing a street party, and I'm not a happy-clapper royalist, but I sure as hell won't be moaning about it, and letting it make me miserable. It never ceases to amaze me how people find a way to moan about absolutely everything. Even the birth of a newborn baby!
