Some parents are right pricks. I've encountered my fair share. One parent even argued with me when I sent off his son who clearly called me a ****.

I sent two off in the final 20 seconds of a game once.

One called me a ****ing ******. Then as I was about to signal for the restart, his mate called me it right next to me!

Two reds, and the parents had the cheek to charge on at full time to confront me.

Received full apology from the manager and chairman by phone. The chairman was particularly unhappy as they were a community club who were associated with the local disabled association. The club actually banned parents from attending the final three games as no one owned up. My mate had one of their games and told me there were no supporters present from that club.

Very famous. One of the real greats, and yes that was his normal action and he took loads of wickets. And he was an all-rounder too, with a good batting average. Yeah, Apartheid did for him, just as it did for Hampshire's Barry Richards down the other end of the wicket in this video. After all, Richards could be argued to be one of the top three batsmen of all time, but was never able to show it internationally.

Indeed, I'm familiar with Richards but I'd never seen Procter before, although now I'm thinking about it I feel like I have (or must have) heard of him, but just never really took notice. But perhaps that's just me feeling young and ignorant and placing false memories in my head. <laugh>

What a team South Africa could have had during that time with Richards, Pollock, Procter and the like, a great shame.

Also, on Procter's wikipedia page it says 'He proved himself a colossal competitor in English first class cricket but was denied the international stage most fitting to his volcanic power.' Excellent!

Wow, that's crazy. Just looked up his career stats too, to see if it brought consistent success. Average of below 20 in every form of the game... yikes. His FC batting average of 36.01 and bowling average of 19.53 is incredible, over 401 games at that.

I'm amazed you pepys have never heard of him. He was an international legend in cricket, despite not being able to represent his country. Please, please tell me you have heard of Barry Richards and Gordon Greenidge..? :)

By the way, just noticed that Beefy has tipped over the 1000 mark, so get your posts in quick or you'll have to copy and paste them into the new one I'm starting to prepare. I'll come back to close this one when ready.

Cheers
